After the Summer Game Fest and E3 earlier this month, plenty of upcoming games have been revealed for every console. From courtroom mysteries to first-person boomerang-based adventures, here are 10 games coming to Nintendo Switch in July 2021.
Mythic Ocean – July 2
The first big release of July has no combat or action, and is instead a more relaxing game about swimming around and talking to underwater deities. In this narrative based adventure, each decision you make will influence the course of this underwater universe, and the world can be shaped differently on each playthrough. Mythic Ocean is currently out on Steam, with a free to play prologue, and the full game will be releasing early next month.
Ys IX: Monstrum NOX – July 6
The newest game in the 34-year-old Ys franchise is finding its way to the Nintendo Switch, after launching for PlayStation 4 later last year. This entry follows recurring protagonist Adol as he investigates the truth behind the mysterious “Monstrums”.
The Silver Case 2425 – July 6
The newest, or rather, the oldest game from Grasshopper Manufacture, The Silver Case is a pair of visual novels from auteur game director Goichi Suda, also known as SUDA51. The original The Silver Case launched on the PlayStation back in 1999 as a Japanese exclusive, and it later received a sequel on Japanese mobile phones. Despite its rather inaccessible past, both games have received recent remasters that released in the west, both of which will be included in The Silver Case 2425.
Boomerang X – July 8
One of the more bizarre games coming out this month, it’s no surprise that Boomerang X comes by way of Devolver Digital. Set in a psychedelic and unfamiliar world, Boomerang X is all about using high mobility, slow motion, and an X shaped boomerang to fight hordes of shadow monsters. Fans of Ultrakill and other twitchy first person shooters will want to pick this one up on Switch or PC next month.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin – July 9
Hot off the heels of the wildly successful Monster Hunter: Rise, Capcom is releasing another Monster Hunter game this year. This time, it’s the sequel to 2016’s Monster Hunter Stories, a spin-off of the Monster Hunter franchise in which monsters can be tamed and battled against each other. This game follows the protagonist and his “monstie,” a small Rathalos whose wings are too small to fly. Tied to this Rathalos is a fated curse: “When the wings unfurl, disaster will befall the land.”
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – July 16
As the last major Zelda game to come out prior to Breath of the Wild, Skyward Sword released in a bit of an awkward time period, where the Wii was starting to lose steam, but the Wii U had not yet come out. Fortunately, those who missed this entry the first time around can catch it next month, and join Link on the adventure that begins the (confusing) Legend of Zelda timeline.
Cris Tales – July 20
Cris Tales is the latest game from indie publisher Modus Games. Described as a “gorgeous, indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective”, Cris Tales certainly offers a new twist on the genre. As you play three different timelines at once, look into the past, and watch as your present actions affect the future. Sporting a refreshing art style, intriguing character designs, and a interesting and unique gameplay mechanic, Cris Tales looks to have a bright future on the horizon.
Darius Burst: Another Chronicle EX+ – July 27
The Darius series is one of the more iconic side-scrolling shmups, alongside games like Gradius and R-Type. Darius Burst’s unique ultra-widescreen perspective gives it a unique sense of scale and excellent co-op play, not to mention one of the coolest looking arcade cabinets I’ve gotten to play on. Darius Burst Another Chronicle EX+ is more than just a port of the arcade experience though, and it offers new features like a replay system and new missions.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles – July 27
Though Capcom’s E3 press conference was underwhelming, to say the least, it did give us a new look at the highly anticipated The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Chronicles is a collection of the first two Great Ace Attorney games, which were both exclusives to Japan. Play as Phoenix Wright’s ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo, and team up with copyright-safe detective Herlock Sholmes to solve cases in Victorian-era Great Britain.
NEO: The World Ends With You – July 27
NEO: The World Ends With You is a sequel to the similarly-named Nintendo DS cult classic. While also being a music themed action RPG in an urban environment, NEO: The World Ends With You builds upon its predecessor in a variety of ways, namely in the addition of a third dimension. That said, NEO: TWEWY appears to include many of the same elements that garnered the first title so much critical acclaim. A demo of the game is out now on the eShop.
