There are gonna be more chicken dinners for players to win across 3 new PUBG games set to be released this year and in 2022.

In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO of Krafton and creator of PUBG Kim Chang-Han talked about the future for his studio, announcing the company’s release schedule for their next 3 games. The first on the list is a new battle royale mobile game set within PUBG‘s universe, releasing later this year.

Another game set in the same universe, but this time for PC and console, is slated for release ‘by next year’, followed by a survival horror game in 2022 called The Callisto Protocol.

The Callisto Protocol is an upcoming horror game said to “depict the PUBG universe three centuries into the future” and is being directed by the co-creator and executive producer of Dead Space, Glen Schofield. As seen in the trailer above, the game will not be taking place on earth, but instead on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. Players will take the place of a prisoner caught in the midst of an alien invasion at a prison colony called Black Iron.

The trailer also indicates that the person behind the invasion is the prison warden, who can be seen calmly watching the surveillance cameras as the prison gets overrun.

How humanity goes from staging 100 person battle royales on earth to inhabiting Callisto is hopefully something that will be explained within the game. One thing’s for sure, the trailer definitely looks to be a big graphical improvement for the PUBG franchise.

Not much else is said about the PUBG mobile game set to release sometime this year, or the PC/Console game slated for release ‘by next year‘. However, future games will most likely be set within the same universe, as stated by Han Kim, ‘I think the more important thing is how the company can utilize the intellectual property of PUBG and how it can make that into an even bigger franchise’.

Krafton CEO Kim emphasises that he does not want his company to ‘stay a one-hit-wonder‘. While Krafton owns several subsidiaries, PUBG accounts for the majority of its profits, netting the company 1.1 billion dollars in the first 9 months of 2020 alone. It’s no wonder that the company is pushing for more game titles within the PUBG franchise.
