Monster Hunter Rise PC Version Confirmed for 2022 Release

Updated:

In a statement by producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, the Monster Hunter Rise PC version is scheduled for release in early 2022. This news comes a month before the Nintendo Switch release of the game. The information comes from an interview with Gamesradar.

“As you know, Monster Hunter Rise is coming to Switch at the end of March. In response to a lot of fan feedback, we’ve decided to move forward with a PC version as well, which will be released in early 2022,” he said. “It’s still very much in development so we can’t share too much, but that will be coming early next year.”

This PC release follows the same pattern with Monster Hunter: World’s initial release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018, before being released for PC on August 9 of the same year. Though, from Tsujimoto’s words, the PC version will release much later after the Switch version.

It’s possible that Nintendo paid for timed exclusivity for the game, which is why the Monster Hunter Rise PC version is releasing a year rather than its Switch counterpart. It is also possible that Capcom would want more time for the PC version to be more polished, like the Monster Hunter: World PC release wasn’t in quite the best shape in the early days of its launch.

With Monster Hunter Rise PC imminent and following the pattern of World, there is also the distinct possibility that Rise will also receive a Master Rank expansion, much like how World got the Iceborne expansion.

In previous Monster Hunter games, Capcom would release the initial version, then eventually follow it up for an “Ultimate” version, which adds a G rank, the rank after High Rank. In Iceborne, it was called “Master rank.”

I personally prefer the World and Iceborne expansion release, as it means not having to start over fresh in Low rank and working your way up to High rank, then Master rank. Hopefully, Monster Hunter Rise follows the same structure and we get a G/Master rank expansion to it.

However, my bigger hope is that Capcom will add crossplay for Rise, allowing Switch and PC players to play together. As it is not inherently a competitive game and relies on co-operative teamwork, Monster Hunter could benefit greatly from joining players from different platforms together.

And it also would have saved me from buying it a second time on PC so I could play with friends. Monster Hunter Rise releases on March 26, 2021.
