Call of Duty Vanguard is finally here, much to the delight of the franchise’s fans and players. In the months running up to Vanguard’s release, Sledgehammer Games never held back on disclosing details about the game. While there are many differing viewpoints on the new game, the fans are still wondering which Vanguard game modes to dive into first.
Xbox recently released a teaser trailer for the game, with the Vanguard game modes available shown towards the end. Players have set their expectations high as it is with every Call of Duty title. Fortunately, Vanguard has all the classic game modes along with some new interesting modes. Here’s a walkthrough of all the game modes in Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Campaign
The Campaign mode in Call of Duty: Vanguard is an engaging single-player game. The game is set during World War II and follows the establishment of Task Force One, the first international Special Forces outfit. Sledgehammer Games created the plot which includes fights from all fronts of WWII.
The franchise is known for its quality storylines and iconic characters. However, there has been a lack of “heroes” in the Call of Duty series lately. With Vanguard’s campaign, you can dive into the game and play as four different war heroes inspired by real-life events. These heroes band together to stop Project Phoenix, led by the Nazi Officer Hermann Wenzel Freisinger.
Multiplayer
Vanguard Multiplayer, as the name implies, is a game mode in which you compete against other people in real-time. As a casual first-person shooter game, the Call of Duty franchise is defined by multiplayer.
There are seven game modes available to play in multiplayer but only one of them is new. Here’s a list of game modes in Vanguard multiplayer:
- Free-for-All
- Team Deathmatch
- Search & Destroy
- Domination
- Kill Confirmed
- Hardpoint
- Patrol (new)
Patrol is the latest addition to Call of Duty multiplayer. In this objective-based game mode, a team can only control one capture zone. Unlike Hardpoint, this zone is free to roam about the battlefield, requiring the two teams to travel alongside it. The patrol will be playable on 16 of the game’s 20 maps, just like the other team-based versions.
Zombies

Call of Duty Zombies has appeared in the last six titles and has been a huge hit for the franchise. Treyarch’s Vanguard Zombies is a follow-up to the Dark Aether plot. You must battle Nazi Officer Von List, zombie Zombies, and Kortifex the Deathless, one of the five Dark Aether beings.
In Zombies, you play against NPC zombies rather than other players. It can be played solo or with friends in a squad. Treyarch recently released a gameplay guide to Vanguard Zombies, shedding some light on the roadmap for the game mode.
Warzone Pacific
Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific is a stand-alone game. It’s a new and improved version of the hugely popular Warzone Battle Royale. Warzone includes a variety of game variants and is played on the huge Caldera map.

After Verdansk and Rebirth Island, Caldera is the third map in Warzone. Battle Royale, Resurgence, Vanguard Royale, Plunder, and other game modes are available in Warzone Pacific.
Popular Youtuber ‘jackfrags’ got the opportunity to play through the new map. He was quite happy with the map and felt that it is promising for the Call of Duty franchise.
The new map will be a part of the game on December 2nd, 2021 with Season one of Vanguard. This will also mark the addition of the Main Quest in Vanguard Zombies.
Will New Game Modes Come to Vanguard?
Sledgehammer Games is almost certain to keep the updates going for Vanguard. With Season one launching on December 2nd, there’s a plethora of new events and game modes to look forward to.
