How to Parry in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Learning how to parry in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is an important skill to master when it comes to close combat. And though it can be a challenging ability to master, it is definitely worth learning how to do.

So, in today’s guide, we will show you how to parry in Assassin’s creed Valhalla and the benefits that come with learning how to incorporate it into your playstyle.

How to Parry in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Parrying in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is similar to the parrying system in other games. You have to time the parry exactly as the enemy is about to strike you by pressing L1 on your controller or Q on your keyboard just before impact.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla however employs a specific combat system that will indicate when parrying is not possible. An enemy will begin an attack and glow a specific color, indicating their attack intensity.

The red color on the enemy indicates a powerful attack that cannot be parried. You must dodge or sidestep the attack in order to evade it successfully. You can parry any of the yellow or orange attacks with a shield or a small weapon as well.

Parrying Uses in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Parrying is useful as an alternative to regular combat as it functions as a risk/reward system. A low-risk low reward would be avoiding the attack and countering. But this means moving more and giving your opponent the chance to shield themselves.

A mid risk mid reward strategy would be using a shield to block the attack and incur a loss in stamina, but you won’t need to back away from the opponent, giving you more opportunity to strike back.

The highest risk and highest reward is the parry. You risk being hit if you don’t time your parry perfectly in the short window you have to do so. But If you do get it right however, you will be rewarded. Considering that performing a successful parry allows you to perform a powerful finisher or throw a smoke bomb.

The smoke bomb option is extremely useful, especially if you are up against a large number of enemies. As you can stun them and regroup, or go in for a counterattack. The parry and smoke bomb combo also works well to break through enemy lines. Or if they have their shields up and are proving difficult to take down.

Lastly, take caution when parrying as it does consume stamina, but it does offer a good return on investment, as you will be able to counter with high damage, so it’s a fair trade-off.
