Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How to Decorate Your House with Fandoms

If you’re a geek at heart then you’ll want to surround yourself with superheroes, anime, or film memorabilia at home. Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows you to decorate your house with your favorite fandoms, by presenting Marvel, DC, video games, and more themes at your fingertips.

It may take a few Bells and a little bit of patience, but Tom Nook doesn’t mind waiting for your mortgage payments while you decorate. Thanks to custom design tools and an array of in-shop items, this guide will give you plenty of ideas and pointers on how to build your virtual Bat Cave.

The first step in creating the home of your dreams is to save up some Bells. Wallpaper, flooring, building extensions, and items do not come cheap, but there are many ways to increase your income.

Capitalizing on the turnip market is a profitable place to start, and daily chores such as gathering weeds or picking apples can also boost your bank account. Opting to sell bugs, fish, and fossils – instead of donating them to the museum – will give you generous payouts. There are also plenty of rocks around to bang with your shovel, which will deposit Bell Bags, iron nuggets, and gold nuggets to sell for a high price.

Cashing in on the Nook Miles you’ve accumulated will also allow you to pick up specific items from the Nook Stop in Resident Services, without the need of spending Bells.

How to choose the best wallpaper and flooring

Selecting the right backdrop and flooring for your home can be tricky, but it all depends on what you are looking to create. Some islanders may want to recreate a scene from Marvel, while others prefer to have their wall completely dedicated to One Piece.

If you’re looking to create a room like Tony Stark’s lab, then looking for flooring with a metallic sheen and wallpaper that resembles an industrial setting will be ideal. There are also plenty of other prints being used to create a dark stone effect for a Bat Cave, or some orange, retro wallpaper to mimic the 70s style of WandaVision.

Of course, another option is to pick plain wallpaper and flooring to make your collection of items stand out. Perhaps a horror or video games-themed room is more in line with your interests, where The Shining-themed wallpaper or a design with a stack of games printed on it will be beneficial to you.

How to purchase fandom items

The Nook Stop in Resident Services has a few cool items to purchase with Nook Miles – including a Godzilla and Gundam statue – but Timmy and Tommy’s Nook’s Cranny is the best place to shop. The store welcomes around six new items per day with some tailored to your fandom, however, patience is a virtue.

Luck will also come into play while you wait for your ideal items to arrive in stock, and the more hours you log in-game, the more items you will be exposed to. Checking Nook’s Cranny every day between 8am-10pm is a good routine to follow, in order to maximize your chances of finding the perfect arcade cabinet or lava lamp.

It’s also a good idea to check your inventory and have a look at what items you’ve already collected. Veteran players may have a lot of items in storage, with enough books and roses to inspire a Beauty and the Beast-themed room, or enough medieval items to build a Game of Thrones shrine.

How to use custom fandom designs

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Custom Designs Portal The Legend of Zelda Canvas Design

The Custom Designs Portal, located at the back of the Able Sisters’ tailor shop, is a hub for designs of specific fandoms. Created by other users, the kiosk allows you to search for designs and apply them to canvases, flooring, wallpaper, clothing, and even flags.

Performing a criteria search within the kiosk’s interface will allow you to search for your fandom and refine your selection by what type of item you’re looking for. If you search for ‘The Legend of Zelda’, then you’ll be able to save certain designs and symbols to the Custom Designs app on your NookPhone.

Once your chosen designs have been downloaded, you can then apply them to any canvas, item of clothing, or even set it as your wallpaper or flooring.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a very friendly user interface with simple tools and a healthy catalogue of custom designs. The life sim also supports your desire to test many combinations whilst decorating your dream home, encouraging you to unleash your inner geek and flaunt your interior design skills.
