Astralis to skip second RMR event – BeyondTheSummit

It was recently announced that Astralis will skip the second RMR event, as they will face penalties if they compete with their adjusted lineup.

The BeyondTheSummit RMR event is set to take place on June 22 – July 5, with the potential for teams to earn up to 2000 RMR points for first place.

Kaspar Hvidt elaborated on this decision, stating that:

“We can confirm we have decided not to participate in BTS, which was added rather late to the calendar as a part of the Major Qualifiers. This is due to our general planning around the team and the way we would be punished for substituting players. Unfortunately, it would make no sense for Astralis to play this tournament under the given circumstances.”

The way the current rules stand, each roster change would result in the team losing 20% of their total RMR points. Astralis currently sits on 2400 RMR points, (800 for winning the previous Major and 1600 for winning the previous RMR event) so competing in this event with their adjusted lineup would mean losing 960 RMR points.

To achieve more than 960 points, they would need a result of 9th place or higher. However, when they return their lineup to its original form for the third RMR event, they would then face this penalty again, meaning that anything less than first place at BeyondTheSummit would result in a net loss of RMR points, and this result would probably not be possible with the current lineup.

Current RMR standings for Europe are as follows:
  1. Astralis – 2400
  2. G2 – 1680
  3. Vitality – 1660
  4. Faze -1580
  5. ENCE – 1280
  6. NiP – 1200
  7. Heretics – 1100
  8. GODSENT – 1000
  9. North – 900
  10. Copenhagen Flames – 700
  11. mousesports – 650
  12. Movistar Riders – 600
  13. fnatic – 500
  14. Complexity – 350
  15. c0ntact – 330
  16. Dignitas – 150

This decision to skip the second RMR event will mean that there will be a lot of pressure on Astralis when it comes to the third and final RMR event. If their previous performances had not been as good, this decision might have been a lot worse. While they will still be in a reasonable position to earn enough points for a legend spot, they might not get the optimal seed going into the Major.
