How to Drift in GTA 5

Drifting in cars in GTA 5 is relatively harder compared to other games such as Assetto Corsa and Forza Horizon 4. But where there’s a will, there’s a way! We’ll get you started on how to drift in GTA 5, but remember, it will take some time to master smooth drifting.

First of all, the car has a few tuning requirements to drift well:

  • Street wheels are the go-to choice for drifting
  • Have “Low Grip Tires” installed. Bulletproof tires will completely ruin the drift
  • Set the Vehicle Stance through the Interaction Menu to “Lowered”. It will allow the car to drift more naturally
  • Do not install brake upgrades. You can, but it can affect the drift depending on the car

Once you are done with that, here’s how to start drifting in GTA 5:

  • Start accelerating, reach and maintain a comfortable speed. It doesn’t have to be the max speed of the car.
  • When you start turning tap the E-Brake for the car to drift
  • Throughout the drift, you have to control the car by steering in the opposite direction of the slide (it comes naturally because if you don’t you will just make donuts)
  • Keep tapping the E-Brake to maintain drift or stop to let the car drive regularly

That’s the base, but there are a few tips to make your life a bit easier. Firstly, remember that you can use the E-Brake, brakes, and accelerator to adjust and extend your drift. If you are about to hit the wall, start braking and steer out while still drifting.

Just remember not to try and control the car too much, you’ll end up spinning out. The car will flow on its own, you just need to adjust the speed and direction.
