Looking for some good PC games but don’t want to spend any money? With more games going free-to-play and relying on selling cosmetics, there are actually some really good games you can download and play for absolutely nothing. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the best free games for PC (in no particular order).
Apex Legends
Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale developed by Respawn Entertainment. The game came out of nowhere on February 4, 2019, and surpassed 25 million players in the first week of its release.
In Apex Legends, twenty trios (3 person squads) land on an island and search for weapons and other supplies to fight it out to be the last team standing. You know, typical battle royale stuff. What makes Apex Legends unique is that you select pre-made characters, known as legends. These legends are similar to heroes in Overwatch, as they have their own set of unique abilities.

Fortnite
If you haven’t heard of this game, you’ve probably been living under a rock for the past 3 years. Even if you have been living under a rock, chances are you’ve still heard of Fortnite. When we mention Fortnite, we are referencing the Battle Royale gamemode, as Save the World is not currently free.
Fortnite is another Battle Royale where you’ve got to be the last man standing after jumping out of a battle bus onto an island and then gearing up. The game is extremely popular, with Epic Games reporting 78.3 million active players in August 2018.

CS:GO
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive introduced a battle royale mode known as Danger Zone and went free-to-play in December of 2018.
If you haven’t heard of CS:GO, it’s a multiplayer first-person shooter and features two sides, the Terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists. As a Terrorist, you either have to defend the hostages or plant the bomb, while the Counter-Terrorists have to prevent the bomb from being planted or rescue the hostages.
Valorant
As of writing, Valorant is having a closed beta. Read our article here if you’re interested in getting access to the closed beta. The game will be free-to-play when it launches this summer, so I believe it deserves a spot on our list of the best free games for PC. Even though the game is currently in closed beta, it has still averaged 470,000 viewers and peaked at 1,728,000 on Twitch.
Valorant is a 5v5 tactical first-person shooter currently featuring nine characters with their own set of four unique abilities, two of which you can buy at the start of each round. Valorant offers abilities similar to Overwatch and a buying system like CS:GO.
Call of Duty: Warzone
Yes, this is another Battle Royale. Warzone was released in March of 2020 as a part of the immensely popular Call of Duty series. What makes Warzone unique is that it features an in-game currency system called “Cash”. Cash can be used at buy stations to buy loadouts, killstreaks and gas masks.
Activision announced that Warzone surpassed 50 million downloads in the first month.

Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is a first-person shooter game and the sequel to the 1996 mod Team Fortress for Quake. The game features game modes like capture the flag and king of the hill. You can join either the RED or BLU team and choose one of 9 character classes. The game went free-to-play in June of 2011.

Warframe
Warframe is an online action game that includes elements of shooters, RPG and stealth games. In Warframe, you control members of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors. Although Warframe doesn’t seem like the type of game I would enjoy, most people seem to give it very positive feedback.
Paladins
Paladins is an online Hero shooter that takes place in a sci-fi fantasy world and features various characters known as Champions. The game has four game modes with the main one, Siege. Two teams of five race against each other to take control of the capture point. Once a team has successfully done that, they must push a payload that spawns from it to the enemy base.
Dota 2
Dota 2 is a popular MOBA and the sequel to Defense of the Ancients, a mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. The game is played in matches between two teams of five players. Each player controls a character known as a Hero who all have unique abilities.

League of Legends
League of Legends is another MOBA and features a massive roster of 148 Champions. Two teams of five go against each other to complete the main objective of destroying the enemy base, or “Nexus”.
