BIG has secured the greatest win in the organization’s entire history with DreamHack Masters Spring 2020. The German squad pulled off the reverse sweep to steal away the victory from G2 in a phenomenal match that went to overtime in the final map.
The match started with G2 up 1-0. Since G2 secured their spot in the finals through the upper bracket, they earned a free map win by default. The first map played was Vertigo. G2’s pick of Vertigo started the trend of one-sided maps. G2 kicked off the series, winning 16:6. The leader of this map was the coverboy for G2’s CS squad, kennyS, with a 1.48 HLTV rating.
Map two spelled the beginning of G2’s troubles. BIG chose Nuke, and it went similar to how BIG performed against FaZe Clan on Nuke yesterday. This time around, it was tabseN who absolutely dominated on map 2. He earned himself a 1.97 rating.
For the third map, G2 made the mistake of picking Dust2, something that has been a problem for teams in the past. They definitely felt the might of BIG once again with G2 only securing 6 rounds. This time, the BIG player who shined was tiziaN. What is most entertaining about this is that every player on the BIG squad has a place to shine in this series. Final score of map three: 16:6.
G2 Can’t Close It Out
Mirage started out with an incredibly strong defense held by G2 who won 7 rounds in a row, at one point having a score of 10-1. With just a few rounds left in the first half, BIG began to mount their comeback, earning 3 rounds to close out their attack. This signaled the beginning of the end for G2. BIG locked down the defense and barely let G2 make any bomb plants, and when they did, it was defused quickly. The German squad pushed G2 all the way to OT and kept the pressure going to secure victory with a final score of 19:17.
The hero of the map was once again syersoN who destroyed G2 with 41 kills in the last map. In the CT Side alone, syersoN had a K/D of 28 and 10. An absolutely phenomenal comeback was mounted by this squad, and it was completely unexpected. With this fantastic series, we see that BIG will be a name to gather respect in the EU CS scene. Now we can expect the team to have a great jump in the world rankings and maybe even break into the top 20. For G2, however, they may have to take more time and hard work if they want to take the top slot in the world.
