Call Of Duty: Warzone has taken the world by storm. The Battle Royale game became an instant smash hit when it was released earlier this year. Despite being part of 2019’s Modern Warfare game, Activision weren’t ready to let it end like they did with the previous Blackout mode from Black Ops 4.
Warzone has over 75 million registered players and is consistently one of the most played games in the world and one of the most watched on websites such as Twitch.
Due to the popularity it has been ported over to the recently released Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, as well as being integrated into Call Of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.
One Of These Things Isn’t Like The Other
Infinity Ward has added 120fps support for Warzone on the Xbox Series X, however the same performance boost hasn’t been added to the PlayStation 5 version of the game.
The addition was not mentioned in the latest patch notes for Modern Warfare, instead it has been spotted on the Microsoft Store with the listings for both Modern Warfare and Warzone mentioning 120fps.
Digital Foundry confirmed Warzone now targets 120fps on the Xbox Series X, but realistically reaches between 100-120fps.
However, Digital Foundry has also confirmed that, as of right now, Warzone will continue to perform at 60fps on PS5.
While the Xbox Series X is a more powerful console than the PS5, it isn’t by much so it is a bit strange that one platform gets such as a massive performance increase, while the other doesn’t.
Will 120fps Come To PS5?
But, there is one possible explanation, Warzone on PS5 is currently the PS4 version running via backwards compatibility. This could explain why it doesn’t run at 120fps because that version doesn’t support it.
Infinity Ward could add support in a future update, or wait for the PS5 port of it to enable to enhanced frame rates.
Sony has a long standing partnership with Activision, with PlayStation getting content much earlier than other platforms, so it is surprising Sony now have the weakest version of the game. But that could all change in a future update.
