Gen.G announced that they agreed to a two-year extension of their contract with support player Kim “Life” Jeong-min. The team also made an announcement regarding the coaching staff.
Gen.G’s other support, Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-gyu, has instead parted ways with the team.
Life’s career at Gen.G
After joining the team in May 2018 as a trainee, he quickly moved to the starting roster as a sub for Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in. When CoreJJ left for Team Liquid in Nov. 2018, he became the starting support for the team, eventually becoming one of the best bot lanes in the LCK, alongside ADC Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, in 2020.
With this announcement, Gen.G has basically re-confirmed last year’s roster. All the other players are contracted for at least 1-2 years: Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee until 2021, while Gwak “Bdd” Bo-sung, Kim “Clid” Tae-min, and Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, until 2022.
Along Life, there are also Gen.G Coaching Staff Updates
The team also announced that Youngdal ‘oDin‘ Ju has been promoted to Head Coach alongside Dabin ‘Lyn‘ Kim, who got promoted from the Gen.G Academy team. They will be joining the LoL coaching staff for the 2021 LCK Season as Gen.G looks to modernize their coaching system, hoping to bring long-term success to the team.
Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-gyu has departed with the team after his contract expired at the beginning of the Free Agency period. With Life already confirmed, Kellin probably won’t renew the contract & will look for other opportunities in the LCK, hoping to finally play as the starting support.
