After 8 long years with the company, Cyberpunk 2077 senior game designer, Andrzej Zawadzki leaves CD Projekt Red. The announcement comes from his Twitter account, where he publicly revealed his time with the company to be at an end.

Prior to working on Cyberpunk 2077 as a senior game designer, he has previously worked as a Quality Assurance tester on The Witch 3: Wild Hunt. Based on the wording of his departure, his time ending with the company appears to be mutual.

The resignation follows a series of hectic events to CD Projekt Red since the delays on Cyberpunk 2077 and its release. CD Projekt Red received death threats from angered fans for the delays in 2020. Zawadzki was a vocal employee of the company, condemning the death threats.

After the game’s release, the game performed poorly on consoles, which resulted in a disastrous launch, failing to meet expectations for what was considered to be the most anticipated game of 2020.

Despite CD Projekt Red issuing a formal apology and promise to fix the game in upcoming patches, they still offered refunds for those who were unsatisfied with the game. Things took a turn for the worse when CD Projekt Red was hit with a cyberattack that stole the source of several of the studio’s games.

Zawadzki noted that his time with the studio was an “honour and pleasure,” and that his immediate plans, for now, is to take long holidays. With his work in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, I think we can all agree that he deserves it.
