Cyberpunk 2077 Update: CD Projekt Selects New Game Director

Published:

The new Cyberpunk 2077 game director has been selected; Gabriel Amatangelo will be taking the place of Adam Badowski, leaving Badowski to focus his time on his role as studio head. According to CD Projekt Red, Amatangelo will be overseeing future advancements for Cyberpunk 2077.

Gabriel Amatangelo was already known in the industry from Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, as design director and from Star Wars: The Old Republic as lead designer. Amatangelo joined CD Projekt Red in January 2020 as a creative director for CP 2077.

This change in leadership was announced shortly after the departure of Cyberpunk 2077 former game quest director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz.

Selling 13.7 million copies, Cyberpunk 2077 was hyped to the fullest but fell short on many promises. CP 2077 was expected to be a game that had never been seen before, it was anticipated to change open-world action RPG games as we know them… from having the most realistic and interactive AI in gaming to immersive police involvement; changing with the area where the crime was committed, and more. Instead, we were given game-breaking bugs, confusing storyline & graphical glitches, resulting in the removal of the game from Sony’s PlayStation Store in December 2020.

That being said, Pawel Sasko, lead quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077, gives the community a moment at the end of his stream, defending CP 2077, explaining, ‘We have reached for new IP, we have tried to learn as much as we can… We have tried to, like… We really… Our goals have been super ambitious, you know? I don’t really feel that you, like the players and the journalist… fully, completely understand how difficult it was to make this game.’

I do plan on checking out the free DLC Cyberpunk 2077 mentioned on their website, which will be hitting Night City in the coming months.
