The Danish esports organisation North, an affiliate of football team F.C. Copenhagen and entertainment company Nordisk Film, has announced this Friday that it is bound to cease operations, effective immediately.
The reasoning behind the decision was linked to the current economic strains of the global pandemic, ceasing any further investment from these parties on the esports industry.
North entered esports in January 2017, with the firm backing of the Danish Superliga team F.C. Copenhagen and the Danish Entertainment giant Nordisk Film.
Back then, the organisation signed the former Dignitas roster that was composed of some of the most acclaimed faces in Denmark, such as current Complexity’s super-star Kristian ‘k0nfig’ Wienecke and In-Game Leader Mathias ‘MSL’ Lauridsen.
Despite the first year with no notable results, given the fierce competition from the likes of SK Gaming, Virtus Pro and Astralis, North doubled down on their investment and acquired the recent Major winner and Major MVP Markus ‘Kjaerbye’ Kjærbye from their regional rivals of Astralis, handing them out Emil ‘Magisk’ Reif.
However, this move would back-fire, as North would only conquer a single big event (DreamHack Masters Stockholm) while Astralis would go on a legendary run, conquering three CS:GO Major tournaments in a row.

With the team plummeting in form and being unable to reach the highest accolades on competitive Counter-Strike or to hit any of the expectations set by its investors, North rebranded and refocused their energy towards developing young talent in Denmark.
Nevertheless, the project will now close doors, leaving its staff without a job and seven players without an organisation. René ‘cajunB’ Borg, the oldest player in North’s active roster, was the first to react on Twitter.
