As Worlds 2020 continues to move along, the path to the finals gets closer. It is Day 3 of groups and the teams standings are getting clearer bit by bit. The North American region has been struggling for the last few days but finally gets on the board now while the LPL and LCK have been destroying teams left and right. It was only a matter of time for one of these regions to end the other’s streak.
The day started with the matchup of Machi Esports vs G2 Esports. Many fans heavily favored for EU’s 1st Seed team, G2 Esports. LoL Esports even highlighted G2’s support Mikyx kill against Machi’s ADC, Bruce. Machi Esports did put up a fair fight, getting 15 kills against G2. However, G2 was able to take on 24 and closed the game just under 40 minutes. G2 finishes Day 3 with a 2-0 record.
Next up was LPL’s Suning Gaming and NA LCS’s Team Liquid. Despite a low kill game, entering the final team fight at 8-2 for Suning, the LPL team takes the win after a final push just after the 30-minute mark. Lots of eyes were on the jungle difference between TL’s Broxah and SN’s SofM, the latter overpowering the NA jungler. Lots of fans, blame TL’s passive gameplay against an aggressive Chinese playstyle. Hopefully they’ll figure something out soon enough. The following match-up was LCK’s 1st Seed, Damwon Gaming, against Play-in underdog, PSG Talon. Damwon continues to show off their strength, ending the match just under 30 minutes. PSG did try and work the LCK team in the early game, suffering on later after multiple mistakes. DWG’s Nuguri was spotlighted for his epic plays under enemy tower.
The 4th match-up of the day was between LPL’s JD Gaming against EU LCS’s Rogue. The LPL continues their domination, even after a constant back and forth until late-mid game. After a successful jungle invade and picking off 3 Rogue members, JD Gaming was able to take the lead and push to the last minutes of the game. Rogue was not quite able to regroup themselves together after that. The 5th match-up was an epic story to watch as FlyQuest’s PowerOfEvil goes against his previous team, Unicorns of Love. The teams were neck-to-neck throughout the game until late-game. UOL was starting to see it’s lead grow and many expected the game to finish with another NA loss. But with an epic comeback towards the end of the game after an epic Baron team fights at the 35-minute mark, FLY was able to take down UOL’s top, jungler and mid. Thus leaving their base vulnerable. FlyQuest finally puts NA on the map at Day 3.
And last but not the least, the final match-up was between LPL giant, Top Esports, and LCK’s strong contender, DRX. After a great show of skills and talent between the teams, Top Esports came out of the game with the triumph and thus ending the LCK win streak. This match-up just furthered heightened fans excitement for a Top Esports and Damwon game. This TES and DRX game is definitely worth to watch full length as both sides showed off epic gameplays. The mid-lane match-up of knight and Chovy is a great lane to watch but lots of credit goes to TES ADC, JackeyLove.
