Dignitas has confirmed this Wednesday that it would be dropping its male VALORANT roster, releasing all players from their contracts whilst maintaining a presence on Riot’s shooter through their female team.
This move comes just hours before the start of the VALORANT Champions Tour North America Stage 2, with the team deciding to play the tournament as a pug squad, trading up Ryan ‘ryann’ Welsh by Hunter ‘BabyJ’ Schline according to their VCT registration page.
While Dignitas has not revealed the motives behind this sudden disbandment, its male VALORANT roster has been plagued by underwhelming results in the North American VALORANT scene, with the roster failing to qualify for the first Masters event of the VCT circuit and being equally unsuccessful in other regional tournaments.
Their highest accomplishment remains second place at the Pittsburgh Knights Before Christmas, where the team losing to Gen G in the Grand-Finals for a 2-1 margin. Just a week ago, the organisation benched one of its VALORANT team founding members, the former Fortnite player Harrison ‘psalm’ Chang.
Following a report from the Daily Esports, their In-Game Leader Rory ‘dephh’ Jackson was the first to confirm his newfound free agency, with the British player taking a “small break” before starting to explore new opportunities.
Despite this, the North American organisation has mentioned that it is looking forward to “new VALORANT initiatives in the future”, hinting at a possible return to Riot’s shooter later down the road.
Dignitas will still keep its female VALORANT squad, with the roster lead by Emmalee ‘EMUHLEET’ Garrido most recently conquering a 4th place finish at the first series of the North American counterpart of the VCT 2021: Game Changers.
