In the recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has revealed that it will be porting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to the Switch this year. The Zelda 35th Anniversary has come and gone (February 21) with only Skyward Sword to look forward to.
However, it seems like the HD version of Skyward Sword is not the only thing Nintendo has planned for the series’ 35th anniversary.
According to industry insider, Jeff Grubb, who has previous leaked via his own source the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remaster and Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has plans for more releases for the Zelda series this year.
Supposedly, Nintendo only revealed Skyward Sword HD as a marketing tactic, as the Mario 35th Anniversary celebrations are still ongoing, and they did not want it to overlap with the Zelda 35th Anniversary.
This is still marketing. And Nintendo will want to position The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD out in front. This is one of the biggest reasons that Nintendo didn’t talk about other Zelda beyond Skyward Sword HD in its latest Direct video event. The company doesn’t want other Zelda games to distract from its attempts to bring back Skyward Sword.
So instead of creating a situation where other Zelda releases on Switch cannibalize sales that could’ve gone to Skyward Sword, Nintendo will create a steady cadence of releases to celebrate the series. That will start with Skyward Sword HD in July, but we should hear about what is coming soon after that this summer.

The Mario anniversary is ending on March 31st, which is when they will stop selling Mario 3D All Stars and will be taken off the eShop.
Nintendo will likely release Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for the Switch. Hopefully, they will be bundled together in one game (and perhaps a 3rd Zelda game to make it a “Triforce Collection”), so fans aren’t paying separately for 2 full-priced games, considering how both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess got a more recent port for the Wii U.
So for those who aren’t interested in Skyward Sword or are disappointed that the Zelda 35th Anniversary only included that game, fear not. We can expect more announcements for the series later this year (E3 Direct, perhaps?).
