Fallout 4 has been out a hot minute. The 2015 title is Bethesda’s latest single-player entry into the ever-popular series. Fallout 76 may not have stuck the landing, but that doesn’t take away from Fallout 4’s improvements on Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. One of these improvements was the perks system implemented throughout the game. Another great addition to the game is companion perks! Who you have with you isn’t just for fun, it can actually help you out in the wasteland.
Each companion you encounter (except the dog, sadly) throughout Fallout 4 has an associated perk. Below, we’re listing each perk, the associated companion, and what it does. The format will be the following:

| Robot Sympathy | Codsworth | +10 Damage Resistance against robot energy attacks. |
| Combat Medic | Curie | Can heal 100 health if current health is below 10% |
| Know Your Enemy | Paladin Danse | +20% damage against irradiated Ghouls, Super Mutants, and Synths. |
| Cloak & Dagger | Deacon | +20% sneak attack damage, +40% duration to Stealth Boys. |
| Lessons In Blood | Porter Gage | +5% XP per kill and +10 Damage Resistance. |
| Isodoped | John Hancock | Critical hit value increases +20% faster if radiation is 250+ |
| Killshot | Robert MacCready | +20% chance to land headshots in V.A.T.S. |
| Close To Metal | Nick Valentine | +1 guess when choosing passwords in terminals, +50% terminal cooldown speed after hacking. |
| Hunter’s Wisdom | Old Longfellow | Damage and Energy Resistance of animals and sea creatures reduced by 25% |
| Gift Of Gab | Piper | 2x XP when persuading others or discovering new locations. |
| United We Stand | Preston Garvey | +20 damage resistance, +20% damage when outnumbered. |
| Beserk | Strong | +20% melee damage when health is below 25% |
| Shield Harmonics | X6-88 | +20 energy resistance. |
Fallout 4’s companions are helpful in a fight, in more ways than one! They increase a number of stats and give you a few extra bonuses, too. However, they aren’t permanent and you can only have one at a time. So… Choose wisely. There are other bonuses you can get in Fallout 4, though.
