The last day of IEM New York has concluded, and the best of five match between FaZe and OG only gave us three maps as Faze took the series 3-0 after dominant performances on Inferno and Dust2. The international roster, which has been under heavy criticism after a series of poor performances, showed up in today’s grand final with the entire team contributing to the win.

The series started off close with the first map going into double-overtime before FaZe squeezed out the four rounds needed, giving them a good start after taking their map pick of Mirage. Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye put up a great hold on the B-site as he picked up four kills and shut down OG’s B-attack. OG did not put up a poor performance, and it looked like they would not give FaZe an easy time on the next maps. FaZe looked even better though, looking particularly dominant on Inferno. OG never managed to break through FaZe’s defense and picked up 12 rounds in the first half on the CT-side. They had no problems picking up the last four rounds needed, and they took the second map of the series.

OG now needed a reverse sweep for them to win IEM New York. FaZe never lost their confidence though and continued with great plays on Dust2. The third map started off close, and OG looked like they were ready for what would come at them as FaZe started off on the T-side. Sadly for OG, FaZe came prepared as well with them taking the map to map and match point, with six rounds to go. OG tried their hardest to come back into the map, but Nikola “NiKo” Kovač had had enough. The Bosnian superstar was vital in the retake as FaZe picked up their 16th round with only seconds to spare on the defuse.
Speaking to the casters after the game, Aleksi “AleksiB” Virolainen said he felt like the mentality wasn’t there going into the second map. He did not seem unhappy with the team’s performance, though, and he praised FaZe for how good they played, admitting they were the better team.
Both teams now have until October 15th before the start of Dreamhack Open Fall to prepare themselves for the event, which is an RMR event. OG is in a group together with Mousesport, Vitality and Fnatic which they beat in the semi-finals yesterday. FaZe is set to face GODSENT, BIG and sAw in the group stage.
