Basically, we put together some of the best tips and tricks to help you learn how to attack in FIFA 23, avoid the most common mistakes other players make, and learn advanced attacking techniques so you can get an advantage over your opponents.

FIFA 23 Advanced Attack Controls and (Some) Skill Moves

Becoming familiar with the game’s controls is important for learning how to attack. But rather than focus on the basics, let’s discuss some more advanced controls that many players don’t know about (but should!).

Once you’ve mastered these advanced controls, you’ll be able to perform a variety of attacking actions that will allow you to score more goals and become a better FIFA 23 player.

The following table will show you all available advanced attacking controls in FIFA 23:

To add some variety and unpredictability to your attacking moves, you can also use skill moves in FIFA 23. Over 50 skill moves are available in FIFA 23, but you should undoubtedly focus on simple ones that will drop an opponent off-balance and allow you to become less predictable while attacking.

Don’t Sprint All the Time

If you compare the previous FIFA titles to FIFA 23, you’ll notice one difference immediately – the pace of play has slowed down a bit.

Instead of running at full speed all the time during your attack, you need to find a balance between building up your play slowly and going for a quick sprint when the chance presents itself.

If you want to get better in attacking in FIFA 23, don't hold your sprint button all the time.

Surely, the great approach is to use the one-two passes (L1 or LB triggers), then try breaking down your opponent’s defense with through balls once you get an opening, except in the penalty box.

Identically, you can also use the attacking runs by (RB or R1 triggers) which will push one of the closest teammates into space so you can send a “killer pass.”

Lastly, you can also perform a Speed Boost, an excellent addition in FIFA 23 that’s quite useful while attacking. However, you can only use it with players that have a high acceleration rating.

Keep the Possession

For novices, one of the biggest challenges to overcome when playing FIFA is being impatient with the ball in possession. Most of the time, however, they would attempt a risky move which ultimately leads to losing the ball and can lead to a dangerous counterattack.

Make the best use of custom tactics in FIFA 23.

Keeping the ball in possession and being patient allows you to create many more chances and dictate the match’s tempo. Generally, some of the best ways to accomplish this are to change sides with fast ground passes or even high passes and return the ball to your defenders whenever necessary.

Furthermore, you should also set the Build Up Play to Slow Build Up and Chance Creation to Possession in FIFA 23 custom tactics settings, as this will allow you to learn how to attack faster.

Don’t Rely on Long Distance Shots in FIFA 23

Remember the good old days of previous FIFA games when scoring screamers from a distance was easy? Well, those days are gone and forgotten. Now, in FIFA 23, it’s much harder to score goals from outside the box.

Even if you want to attempt a long-distance shot from your attack, the opposing AI players in FIFA 23 are clever enough to stay close to your players to give you less room.

Rather, you should try to enter the opponent’s box and attempt to shoot once you get closer to the goal rather than wasting a good opportunity by shooting from far away.

Master Your Finishing

You can greatly improve your attacking in FIFA 23 by practicing various scenarios that often arise during matches. By doing so, you’ll be able to choose the right type of shot in any given situation, such as a chip shot, finesse shot, or a volley, and improve your finishing.

Once you get better at finishing in FIFA 23, you'll know exactly how to attack.

In some FIFA 23 matches, you won’t have many opportunities to shoot at your opponent’s goal or even attack. So it’s essential that you make the most of these situations by improving your finishing ability.

Besides playing matches, which is obviously the best way to practice your finishing, you can also play the Practice Arena and complete Skill Games in order to improve your attacks in FIFA 23.

Being good at attacking will benefit you in both FUT and Career Mode. Although even in career mode you will need the best team and players you can get:
