When it comes to esports, one cannot deny social media’s importance in developing the scene. In an age where almost everything is digital, it is through social media where the esports community can interact. Memes, in-depth analysis, hot takes, it is here where fans can voice their opinions with equally passionate fans.

One such person has become quite the figure when it comes to social media and the League of Legends community. His quality of memes cannot be understated, and it is through his memes that he has built his career. If you’re a fan of the game, and a frequent user of Twitter, you’ve most likely come across him: Fosty.

Coming all the way from Serbia, Fosty has built a reputation of becoming quite the personality on social media. In an interview with us, Fosty talked about quite a lot of things. Namely, he told us how his career was built, as well as social media’s importance in League of Legends, and esports as a whole.

Who is Fosty?

Fosty’s reputation started with him being blocked by TSM, their social media manager Duncan, and even Doublelift. This was because he spammed TSM 0-6 after their performance in the group stage of Worlds 2020. While not a great start, he has since then apologized to them, which according to him, Duncan has accepted.

Despite crossing the line, Fosty continued to create memes for the community. However, it was when he would create his G2 Rekkles memes when his reputation would take off. Since then, his reputation in the community has only continued to grow and has even reached the esports teams themselves. Teams such as NiP, G2, and even G2’s CEO, Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez, enjoy his content and follow his Twitter for it.

The following that came with his reputation was anything but expected, but Fosty is still very grateful for it. Namely, he has much praise for Carlos, who has developed quite the relationship with the personality. Not only that, but Fosty managed to land jobs as a social media manager for both esports organizations and other news outlets thanks to his reputation.

Social Media’s Importance

During our interview with Fosty, he mentioned how important social media is for the esports scene. According to him, while dominant performances help carries the competitive side, social media is where teams gain even more fans. It is through social media where fans can see a more casual, and fun side of players, coaches, and the organization as a whole.

Aside from fans, it is through social media where organizations also help gain sponsors. Through producing content that helps entertain fans, all while advertising the brands, organizations manage to both earn money and grow their community. To him, it is equally important that teams are entertaining as they are competitive.

He praised organizations such as Cloud9 and G2 for upping their social media game. Both organizations have grown their community to the size that it is now through their social media interactions with fans. Fosty also mentioned how these little interactions help fans feel noticed, and make it feel like they matter to the organization. One such case involves Carlos, who he says frequently interacts with G2 fans on Twitter, which helped fans feel closer to the organization.

Social media plays an important role in developing not only the esports scene but also in growing the organizations within it. Through interacting with the fans, organizations help fans feel even closer to the teams they love. Be it through memes, agreeing with their opinions, or even simple happy birthdays when they’re tagged, fans appreciate these interactions. After all, in Fosty’s words, “it costs them nothing when they like, reply, or even quote-tweet the tweets of their fans.”
