Gamerjibe´s Virtual Esports Career Fest? Yes, I was there, and I am here to tell you how it was.
A week ago, Hitmarker’s Twitter account announced that they were organising a Virtual Esports Career Fest in partnership with Gamerjibe, a virtual events organiser.
A Virtual Esports Career Fest seemed to be a great place to spend my time while I am not at my current remote work, so I signed up.
The week before, all the attendees, job seekers, volunteers and panelists gathered around a Discord server to prepare for the event. I had the opportunity to get my resume reviewed, and it was handy, because the people who reviewed it gave me points of view I did not consider before.
The first day was super strange, not going to lie. You create your 3D avatar, and you materialise in what it seems to be a lobby with other people. As soon as you recover your human-like form, a volunteer starts speaking to you, explaining how the fair is going to work and how to interact with people.
The virtual space was separated in colours and areas of interest: Start-ups, Esports, Emerging Tech and Creative Zone, plus the main zone with a virtual bar, a patio and the Welcome Zone.
The event covered the following topics: Esports, Content Creation, Emerging Tech, Cybersecurity and Jobs and Health. The panels were exciting, and we could hear people from all sort of backgrounds. Most of them are available on The Level Up Experience’s Youtube channel. Be sure to check it out; I bet you will find something that cliques your interest.
Another great thing about the event was the people. I had the chance to speak with a bunch of great people I could not reach from my desk. I spoke with members of the United States Esports Association, staff from Hitmarker Jobs, and even the Cyberspace Command of the Marine Corps Forces.
More than twenty exhibitors and most of the companies were keen to talk with you when visiting their booth. You could also find academic offers like the program of the Staffordshire University.
Overall, Gamerjibe´s Virtual Esports Career Fest was a great experience, and I learnt a lot. Sometimes you could indeed find a bug, or the communication was laggy, but I had a great time. Also, it was free and open to everybody, so I would not complain.
