No one likes mining, but in Genshin Impact, Crystal Chunk is one of the resources you’ll need for forging a number of great weapons and useful alchemy items. It primarily can be found in mountainous areas and caves. In this guide, we will cover how to get Crystal Chunk in Genshin Impact, the best locations for farming and crafting recipes.
How to Get Crystal Chunk in Genshin Impact?
Mining
The old-school way of getting Crystal Chunk or any ore is mining. Time to get your hands dirty as there are quite a few spots for mining Crystal Chunks. We will go over them but we also recommend opening a Teyvat Interactive Map on your phone or a second monitor if you have one to easily see other locations that may be convenient to you. It is also worth noting that the Crystal Chunk has a respawn rate of 72 hours if you’re looking to farm it.
The ultimate best location for Crystal Chunks is north of Liyue, near the Qingyun Peak. The ore is scattered all over the mountain and nearby locations. A recommended path would be starting at the top, and slowly descending clockwise. In a matter of minutes, you will get your hands on a reasonable amount of Crystal Chunk
Stormterror’s Lair is the second-best location for mining Crystal Chunks. There are 24 total, and most of them are quite tightly spaced in locations before the wind barrier.
Finally, the new area, The Chasm, also has a fair amount of Crystal Chunks scattered around. It has 24 ores, just like Stormterror’s Lair, and is formed in a nice circle for you to go around, collect them, and explore the areas for a bit. Surprisingly, there are no Crystal Chunks in The Chasm: Underground Mines. If you are going there looking for ore, the best you will find is regular Iron Chunks.
When mining for ore, make sure to use a claymore user like Noelle. They don’t have to be high level, as long as they wield a claymore Crystal Chunks can be destroyed in a matter of a few hits.
Expeditions
A great way to passively acquire Crystal Chunks is by sending out expeditions at the Adventurer’s Guild. Crystal Chunks are the most valuable resource you can possibly get out of expeditions, and since you don’t usually need much of it at the same time, expeditions are a great way to slowly accumulate a stash of ore. Collecting expedition rewards also completes your “Mine 10 items” daily mission in the battle pass.
There are a total of 3 Expeditions that will get you Crystal Chunks. 2 in Mondstadt and 1 in Liyue. When preparing the Expedition, don’t worry much about the character bonus. Just launch all of them for 20 hours for maximum profit. There are barely enough characters in the game to shorten all of them anyway. The only good bonus for this case is Shenhe’s: “Gains 25% more rewards when dispatched on a Liyue Expedition for 20 hours”.
All Crafting Recipes That Use Crystal Chunk
Crystal Chunk is a must when crafting free-to-play weapons. Those weapons might be free, but even if you are a little bit of a whale, there are some great weapons and best in slots that can be crafted.
For example, the Iron Sting is the best sword for Kazuha because of the Elemental Mastery stat. The only other sword with such stat is the Freedom-Sworn Sword 5-star weapon. But as we all know, wishing on a weapon banner is not the best financial decision you can make.

There are also a few alchemy items that will need you to go and get Crystal Chunk. Both Geoculus and Anemoculus Resonance Stones can help you look for the according oculus, however, the better way of doing it is still using the Teyvat Interactive Map. On the other side, Waypoint is something that is often neglected in Genshin Impact. If you know you will farm a Hydro Hypostasis, make sure to put a Waypoint there to save time on travel.
