Genshin Impact Xiao: Guide to Gearing, Playstyle & Team Comp

Updated:

Genshin Impact Xiao is nearing release and fans are shaking with excitement. Players have been waiting since before beta for Xiao to rerelease in their gatcha tables. So what do we know more about this lone wolf? Well, he is the only remaining Yakshas dispatched by Morax to protect Liyue from evil.

We also know he has distain towards mortals, in his lines we hear during the story quests, though towards the end of the second expansion story line he seems to be warming up to the traveler.

Xiao also resides in Wangshu Inn, where he frequently is spotted staring at the stars.

What should you be farming before his release, we got a full list of everything you will need to pick up to make feeling him so much more satisfying.

For starters his main power is Ameno, so farming the Anemo Hypostasis is the main upgrade material you need to grind for. Needing 6 tier 4, 9 tier 3, 9 tier 2 and a solo tier 1, will leave you grinding your resin and crystals away.

Next we are going to be picking flowers, Quingxin to be specific. One of the most annoying flowers to farm you have two options to be grinding. First you can go the herbalism shop where we first meet QiQi, and buy 10 a day or you can take to the moutian tops and farm the skylines of Liyue.

The last part that you will need to go out of your way to grind, is for Juevenile Jade. As of right now there is no current way to farm this material, though with the release of the two new bosses. So our best guess is you will have to farm the Geovishap and Primo Geovishap upon release to be able to farm the material.

Weapon

He currently is releasing with his 5-star Primordial Jade Winged-Spear, though the only way to obtain this weapon is to pull the weapon from the gatcha. Though if you would rather spend your pulls trying to level up your Xiao compared to pulling for his weapon a very good alternative is Crescent Pike.

You can craft this Pike using a base spear material, and 54 crystal chunk and 50ish white iron chunk.

We have good news though for those who don’t know what weapon they BOTH use the same type and number of mats, which include Sacrificial Knifes, the Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula dungeon materials on Monday/Thursday, and the Insignia.

Genshin Impact Xiao Artifacts

There are two types of artifact sets that is projected to be good for Xiao. Players can either run a 4 piece Gladiator’s Finale, which will give the buff set “If the wielder of this artifact set uses a Sword, Claymore or Polearm, increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%.” (Mihoyo)

The second set is a 2 piece Gladiator’s Finale, and a 2 piece Viridescent Venerer Set, which would give the two set bonus of “Anemo DMG +15%” (Mihoyo) and “ATK +18%.” (Mihoyo).

Its community thinks that the 4 piece Gladiator set would be stronger for Xiao.

Playstyle

Xiao is one of few characters who doesn’t need to combo with other champions to do huge burst damage. He is extremely mobile and agile melee character. He uses his mobility as an adepti to completely destroy enemies in his pathway.

His ability to maneuver in and out of bad situation makes him extremely fun and versatile in most teams. His ultimate ability channels in his inner Yakshas, placing on his mask, he gains massive damage, attack range, and speed, in turn he loses HP while in this stance.

Possible Team Comp

While we won’t know the best possible comp for Xiao until we have him in hand and experimenting with his fullest potential. So pairing him with another Ameno character for the movement speed buff would be ideal, though being able to keep Xiao topped off on HP so he can use his ultimate off cool down.

So someone like Jean would be a almost perfect fit for Xiao. Then filling in another support character, with slows and or some type of stun could be great paired with his mobility, so someone like QiQi or Diona and then a good damage boost would be to include Xingqiu, for his ultimate ability.

This is all subject to change if Mihoyo makes any drastic changes to Xiao before his release. What are you planning to build Xiao as?
