Gundam Evolution has long been confirmed to be released on consoles this late 2022. Players on those platforms will surely be playing on controllers. Fortunately, the PC version has controller support to test out the controls first. Here’s what our best controller settings so far in Gundam Evolution.
Settle for Default
The standard controller layout of Gundam Evolution is already a good starting point, especially for new players looking out to try the game. Each button on the controller is mapped to a useful action in battle. Here are the controller defaults as seen on a PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 pad so far:
- Movement – Left Analog Stick
- Aiming – Right Analog Stick
- Shoot/Attack – R2
- Secondary Fire – L2
- Reload – Square
- Active Skill 1 – X
- Active Skill 2 – Triangle
- Active Skill 3 – Circle
- G-Maneuver – R3
- Interact(Plant Megacharge/Defuse) – L3
- Thrusters/Dash – L1
- Jump/Hover – R1
Compared to its peers, Gundam Evolution is a first-person shooter that doesn’t have a crouch. Mobile Suits can’t hunker down behind waist-high cover but its firefights involve using unique movement options to outplay foes.
Depending on the Mobile Suit, players need to manage a Boost meter for Thrusters, Floating, and Dashing in battle. Generally, all of these three mobility options are mapped well to the game’s default controller settings.
Change the Jump Button
Avid first-player shooter players may find Gundam Evolution’s controller settings to be jarring due to its default Jump button. Hopping around in this game will require a shoulder button rather than the usual face button.
The fix for this issue is to immediately map the Jump/Hover button to the usual face button and relegate one Active Skill to the shoulder button.
However, Gundam Evolution has customizable controls for every Mobile Suit in the game. Players should check out which suits are and are not worth changing. The thruster movement is crucial to surviving longer in this game. The game has specific tabs for every suit to accommodate this new control layout
Once that’s done, players can jump into Gundam Evolution matches using a controller. As of now, the Gundam Evolution official site has confirmed that the console versions will be available on December 1 JST. The PC Version currently supports controllers which could help interested console players to warm up before the game officially releases on their platform.
