Hitman 2 Levels Will Now Be Free For Hitman 3, Says IO Interactive

Updated:

Recently, it was announced that PC players would have to pay for an Access Pass in order to bring their Hitman 2 progress over to Hitman 3. This has since been changed to allow PC gamers to access Hitman 2 levels for free on Hitman 3, according to a recent tweet from IO Interactive.

IO Interactive released a statement a few days ago stating how each platform would go about transferring their progress from Hitman 2 over to the new Hitman 3. The issues did not lie in how consoles would go about transferring this data, as it was quick and simple for them, but in the fact that PC players would essentially have to repurchase Hitman 2 in order to access its levels on Hitman 3.

This was due to the fact that the Epic Games Store would have exclusivity for Hitman 3, but currently do not have Hitman 2 on their store, so those who owned the game on PC owned it through Steam. This required people to purchase an Access Pass for Hitman 2 through the Epic Games Store, which they originally stated would be at a discount of 80% for a while after launch, which is still the case, but now they are stating that they are doing everything they can to make it free in later weeks.

As is stated on the updated version of IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 Pre-Launch Guide, which was updated on January 17, they are now “continuing to work on a solution with our partners to allow PC players who own Hitman 1 or Hitman 2 to import locations from those games into Hitman 3 at no additional cost”. They also stated they can guarantee players that they will not have to buy Hitman 1 or Hitman 2 again.

Hitman 1 will still be free to own for those who purchase or pre-purchase Hitman 3 in the first 10 days after launch on PC. It seems we will have to wait a bit longer for Hitman 2 to be free, though. They have only stated that it will be available “in the coming weeks”.
