The event was announced via a tweet from PlayStation’s official account. A short teaser video was released alongside the announcement and it teases “Take the first step beyond, discover the forbidden west.” The phrase is displayed over footage of a beach that slowly goes into the water that reveals ruins beneath the waves.

The whole State of Play is set to be 20 minutes long with 14 of those minutes being devoted to Horizon Forbidden West gameplay. All of the gameplay that will be shown, will be captured on a PS5. The broadcast will air on various Youtube and Twitch channels at 2 PM PT/ 5 PM ET.

Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to PlayStation’s 2017 surprise hit, Horizon Zero Dawn. Forbidden West will take place in parts of California, Utah, and Nevada thousands of years after a post-apocalyptic event wiped out most of the human race and robotic animals roamed the country in their stead.

Forbidden West will feature a lot of underwater gameplay, as teased in the short video announcing the State of Play. Players will be able to swim in the ocean and discover ancient ruins and secrets, something that couldn’t be done in the first game. It will also feature new weapons and robotic animals for the player to fight.

Horizon Forbidden West was first debuted, with a short teaser trailer, during Sony’s PS5 reveal event from June of last year. Nothing about the game since then has been shown, making this upcoming State of Play the first time gameplay will be shown for the sequel.

The game is currently expected to launch sometime this year on both PS4 and PS5. In other PS5 related news, check out all the details for the latest Last of Us Part II patch for the PS5 and two new controllers Sony announced for the console.
