How Long is Destiny 2 Campaign? (Exactly How Long To Beat?)

Published:

Destiny 2 is filled with a bunch of DLCs and you as a player can easily get lost in what you can actually do. One of the core parts of any Destiny 2 expansion is the campaign and here’s how long to beat every one of them.

The length of all Destiny 2 campaigns combined is around 32-35 hours. That is all the story missions from all the expansions.

If you play The Witch Queen and Lightfall on Legendary difficulty, your total playtime can extend by an extra 8-10 hours.

If you are planning to jump into Destiny 2, remember that the campaigns are only a fraction of the content in the game. From seasonal content to endgame activities like Raids and Dungeons, there are plenty of things to do.

New Light

The New Light is the introductory story quest that is free for all players. It’s not really a campaign, but more of a short questline that introduces you to the basics of Destiny 2.

The whole quest can be completed in around 3-4 hours. And after that, you will have a few more quests related to specific activities. Those can take around 2-3 hours in total.

Shadowkeep

Story-wise, Shadowkeep is the first expansion you can buy. It will take you to the moon where Eris Morn has discovered a mysterious pyramid ship. The ship is a remnant of the Darkness that you will be researching.

It is a relatively short campaign. All Shadowkeep’s story missions will take you around 7 hours to complete. It is one of the shorter campaigns in Destiny 2.

There are a few quests after completing the main campaign though. Including an exotic mission associated with the expansion’s dungeon.

Beyond Light

The Beyond Light campaign sees the return of Exo Stranger from Destiny 1 and introduces us to the power of Darkness – Stasis. Which is basically the power of ice.

The story takes place on Jupiter’s moon, Europa, and is around 7-8 hours long. While as short as Shadowkeep, it features many more memorable characters and storylines.

After completing the main campaign you can take your time exploring Stasis and unlocking new Aspects and Fragments for new and powerful builds.

The Witch Queen

The Witch Queen campaign is one of the best campaigns in Destiny 2 when it comes to the story. If you play the game for the lore, definitely make sure to complete it.

The Witch Queen is also where Bungie first introduced the Legendary difficulty to the campaign. It’s more challenging but also rewards you with better loot.

On a regular difficulty, The Witch Queen can take around 8-9 hours to beat. But on a Legendary, it can extend up to 12 hours. And as always, you have your additional quests and exotic missions afterward.

Lightfall

The last expansion available at the time of writing is Lightfall. Following the steps of Beyond Light it takes us to a new location, Neptune, and introduces a new Darkness power – Strand.

Lightfall is a mixed bag when it comes to the quality of the story, but the missions are fun and action-packed. With a great soundtrack and a new subclass to play with, it’s a worthy campaign to play.

Just like The Witch Queen, Lightfall has a Legendary difficulty that will take extra time to complete. But overall, you can expect around a 9-hour-long playthrough.
