The sequel to The Forest completely changed the way the building works compared to the original. For example, in Sons of the Forest, you will need to break sticks to set up a campfire because you can’t use the whole stick. It’s too long after all.
To break sticks, equip a stick, look at the ground, and place it. The character will automatically break the stick and place them on the ground.
Make sure that the stick isn’t selected to be placed vertically as you would need for a torch. To change the positioning of the stick, click the right mouse button.
After that, you will have your sticks on the ground and can add more to build a fire. Or leave them. For whatever reason. Either way, you can’t break sticks and put them in your inventory in Sons of the Forest. They can only be placed on the ground immediately.
Broken sticks also can’t be removed by holding “C” like any placed item or structure. To get rid of placed sticks, hit them a couple of times with an axe or a club. It can get clunky, but after a few hits, they should break and disappear.
