Satisfactory is a game of a seemingly endless supply of workarounds to every problem. No exception is made when it comes to boulders being in your way. That being said, why go over, under, or around a boulder when you can go through it? In this guide, we’ll show you ways how you can destroy rocks and boulders in Satisfactory.
The Intended Methods to Destroy Rocks in Satisfactory
There are two intended ways that you can destroy rocks in Satisfactory. It all comes down to explosives. Currently, as of Patch v0.6.1.2, there are two official explosive devices capable of removing rocks and boulders in Satisfactory. I will list below those two methods and how to craft the items necessary.
The Nobelisk
The Nobelisk is a Satisfactory’s version of dynamite. Nobelisks are created from a combination of Steel Pipes and Black Powder in an Assembler. In order to unlock Nobelisk and the Nobelisk Detonator as craftable items, you must first research them in the MAM under the Sulfur research category.
The Nobelisk works very simply, you place the charge and use a Nobelisk Detonator to blast the charge. You may place as many Nobelisks as you like before detonating. Nobelisks are great for destroying not only rocks and boulders in Satisfactory but also for clearing areas of unwanted trees and other plant life.
There are variations to the Nobelisk including:
- Gas Nobelisk – Generates a cloud of gas after the initial explosion
- Cluster Nobelisk – Produces several smaller grenade-like objects after the initial explosion that expands the blast radius slightly
- Pulse Nobelisk – This Nobelisk type changes the explosion to a shock wave instead.
- Nuke Nobelisk – This final variant is a much larger explosion that also irradiates the area after the initial blast.
Each variant of the Nobelisk comes with its own differentiating material cost and each is capable of clearing areas of rubble.
The Explosive Rebar Ammunition
We move on now to the explosive rebar ammunition. In Satisfactory, you can craft a rebar gun with several different types of ammo. But for the purpose of destroying rocks and boulders, you need the explosive rebar variant.
To unlock the explosive rebar as a craftable item, you must first research it in the MAM under the Sulphur Research category.
The Unintended Method to Destroy Rocks in Satisfactory
We come finally to the unofficial method of using a chainsaw to destroy rocks in Satisfactory. This method is more of a glitch and is only usable to remove the smaller rocks, not the boulders around the map. If there is shrubbery or other plant life near the rock you wish to remove, simply target that plant life and use the chainsaw.
The surrounding area will be rid of any plant life and smaller rocks as a result, but, that being said, any boulders you wish to remove will always require explosives.
