Stairs can be the perfect way to introduce a second floor to your base in 7 Days to Die. Before you can do that, you will need to know how to craft and place stairs first. In this guide, we will be walking you through just that.
How to Use Frame Shapes in 7 Days to Die
The frame shapes were introduced after alpha 18 for 7 Days to Die. They allow you to create any structure block in the game through a single menu.
To access that menu you need to be holding a frame, for example, a wooden frame, and then hold the reload button (R by default). On the opened icon wheel select “Shape” which is the icon on the top. There you can select from a large number of structure blocks.
This frame menu replaced having all of the separate structure blocks. For this guide, we will only discuss stairs, but it is possible to search for specific blocks and shapes depending on the need. In 7 Days to Die’s structure menu, it is divided into sections based on the type of structure. The stairs section is the one we are looking at.
How to Craft Stairs in 7 Days to Die
To craft stairs in 7 Days to Die, you must first craft the frame shape. If you haven’t already, complete the opening tutorial quests. Crafting a frame shape is one of them, displayed on the top right of the screen.
The frame is crafted using two wood.
To craft stairs:
- Open the crafting menu
- Search for the “Frame Shapes” item in the search bar and craft it
- With the frame shape equipped open the “Shape” menu (hold R by default)
- Select your desired block. In this case, stairs
Once you have the frame shaped as stairs you can proceed to place them on the ground.
Getting Stairs in 7 Days to Die on a Console
In 7 Days to Die before alpha 18, to get stairs you could just search stairs in the crafting menu and craft the item directly instead of using a frame shape. The console edition is on alpha 15 and you still need to craft all structure blocks separately.
How to Place Stairs in 7 Days to Die
Once you have crafted the frame shape and selected stairs, you will want to place them. To place stairs, and any other block in 7 Days to Die, just use the same button you would for aiming a weapon or using a power attack (Right-click by default). You will get an outline of the shape to show you what it will look like.
When placing the stairs, and anything else really, watch out for the outline color changing. Red outlines will appear when the block is not supported. If you still place the block when those outlines are red, it will fall, break, and destroy some of the items around it.
The placed frame shape, no matter the chosen block, can then be upgraded using a wooden axe.
