You’re out here, soldier marching on foot through the vast world of Eorzea when all of the sudden you see it! What seems to be a giant chicken with a person riding it comes barrelling past you at Mach 12! No fair, you might think? Don’t worry. In this guide, we will show you how to get your Chocobo in Final Fantasy 14.

Requirements for the Chocobo Quests

So, first off, it’s important to note that you have to play the game for a little while before you can obtain your feathery friend.

Don’t worry though, we have compiled a list of all the prerequisites you will need.

First off, you need to reach level 20. This is easy enough to do with only a few hours of gameplay assuming you are not already 20 at the time you are reading this.

After you’ve reached level 20, you will need to make sure you have joined a Grand Company. If you have followed the Main Story Quest up to this point, you should be able to join a Grand Company if you haven’t already.

Note: Your Grand Company choice does not limit your gameplay. It only decides the color of your official Grand Company clothing, your default PVP faction, and a few other flavor options. On top of that, you may change your Grand Company after.

Next, you will want to ensure that you have completed the MSQ “Lord of the Inferno” so that you may access the quest “Hero in the Making”.

Finally, collect 200 Grand Company Seals by completing various activities including Duty Roulette Fates, company quests, Hunts, or turning in old or unneeded dungeon gear for seals.

Now that you have completed the prerequisites, make your way to your Grand Company HQ and grab the quest “My Little Chocobo”.

If you followed the guide up to this point, you should already have the 200 company seals required for this portion of the quest. Approach the Quartermaster inside your HQ and purchase Chocobo Issuance under the Materiel menu.

Once purchased, make your way back to the Chocobokeep NPC and trade your issuance for your dedicated companion! You obtain mounts in Final Fantasy 14 through the use of a whistle corresponding to each mount.

Simply open your inventory, use the whistle, and it will be consumed, forever adding your Chocobo to the mount menu.

What Can You Do With Your Chocobo?

Now that you’ve gotten your Chocobo, it’s important to know that you can do more with them than just ride. They are able to join you side by side in battle eventually. They can be either a DPS, Heals, or a Tank.

You can purchase armor for your Chocobo, or “Barding”, to customize their appearance. Chocobo barding offers no stat difference and is simply cosmetic in nature.

Another way of customization is changing Chocobo’s color. There are a ton of color options. Use this Chocobo Colour Calculator for the exact maths on what fruit combinations you need to feed your Chocobo.
