Guard Cancel if done right

DNF Duel is an explosive fighting game where a single clean hit can lead to high damage and round-ending combos. The Guard Cancel feature in DNF Duel could help give you the edge to stop these setups and run your own in this explosive fighting game. Here’s how to do the Guard Cancel in DNF Duel,

How To Use Guard Cancel

DNF Duel’s Guard Cancel feature is available to every character on the roster. You’ll just need 100MP to use this move or the game will not allow it. The input for this move is “Forward+B+S” while blocking an enemy attack.

The move can also be used many times in a match. When executed correctly, your character will use the Guard Cancel version of one of their S attacks to interrupt their enemy’s pressure.

During Guard Cancel, the character will be briefly invulnerable to strikes and projectiles. The attack is designed to force the match to return back to neutral and allow both players to land a hit to get their offense started again.

However, the Guard Cancel attack is not a guaranteed way to escape pressure easily. Enemies can bait out the Guard Cancel by ending their pressure on the attack with a quick recovery or heavily frame advantage to them. When this happens, an opponent can block the Guard Cancel and punish the player.

The invulnerability doesn’t last long and will get caught by lingering projectiles. For example, Kunoichi’s Flame Tornado and Inquisitor’s Burning Wheel, if the opponent is not interrupted immediately. This attack can also miss entirely if performing the Guard Cancel attack too far from the foe.

The best use of Guard Cancel is to use it during key points of the enemy’s offense where they’re about to extend their next attack. Aiming for these parts will prevent them from adjusting their offense by the second they notice your Guard Cancel. This strategy may improve your chances of landing the Guard Cancel successfully without any hitches.

Why Use Guard Cancel

Some characters in DNF Duel have Guard Break setups where they still deal a ton of damage despite guarding them for a long time. Characters, such as Ranger, Striker, and Vanguard, can unload a flurry of attacks and MP Skills that rapidly chips your Guard bar.

Due to the blocked MP skills and various attacks, the next combo that lands after the Guard Break will completely deplete all the recoverable health as per the game’s Critical Hit system. This situation is often unfavorable for many characters that function better with life leads and/or have bad Awakening buffs.

If Guard Cancel is not available, intentionally taking the hit early can help avoid the Guard Break setup. It will force a knockdown on yourself and you can try to lessen the health loss during the pressure. This route is risky but if the opponent is not expecting the stray hit from their setup and there is health to spare can be a good option.

Nevertheless, getting hurt is often an advantage in disguise in DNF Duel as lower health increases the MP Gauge limit. The damage could even inch your character closer to their Awakening buffs at 30% health which some characters function better when the buffs are active.

More than the game’s defensive options, knowing the game extensively could help in reaching DNF Duel’s higher levels. Look out for these other pieces to assist you in getting to know more about the game.
