Each of the game’s five heroes levels individually, meaning you need to grind out for each and every single one. This is a massive pain, despite the level cap in Warhammer: Vermintide 2 of 35, so you might want to level up fast.

We’re going to go over a few things here. First, we’ll talk about the basics of leveling up quickly. This includes what difficulty to play on, and what to look for in mission selection. After that, we’ll give you our recommendation on how to level up fast.

Before you jump in, it’s important to note that there’s no one best way to level up fast in Vermintide 2. The game’s nature lets you run whatever mission you want – provided you can complete it fast enough. So, don’t worry about having to slog through a boring mission you hate for hours.

Basics of Fast Leveling in Warhammer Vermintide 2

There are some basic factors you need to consider when you’re trying to level up fast in Warhammer Vermintide 2. Its XP system has some dramatic changes as compared to other games, so take these into consideration before moving on to our farming method recommendations.

Run on Recruit

First and foremost – play the game on Recruit. The difficulty of the missions you run only impacts the quality of the loot you get at the end. It plays absolutely no part in the XP the mission grants whatsoever.

Sure, if you’re also trying to have your gear keep up with your level, you’ll want to run the game on as high a difficulty as you can.

However, for pure XP farming, it’s infinitely more efficient to just play the game on Recruit. It’ll mean you can run missions much faster, earning more average XP per hour as a result.

While the difficulty you play a mission on has no impact on the XP you gain, the Grimoires and Tomes you collect do. Of course, you should always be collecting all the books from every mission you run regardless of external motivations – but that’s especially true for when you’re farming XP.

The difference in XP gains when you collect all the Grimoires and Tomes versus when you don’t is substantial. So make a point of memorizing the location of each one in whatever mission you end up running to level up fast.

Vermintide 2 is fairly restrictive in how you can gain XP. The only real method of gaining XP is completing missions (not including Chaos Wastes). There are no particular farms to speak of. So, leveling up fast is simply a matter of finding the fastest possible mission to run.

This isn’t too tall of a challenge – especially considering the fact that we can play on Recruit. However, there are a few factors to consider when judging whether or not a mission would be good for farming XP:

  • Whether or not there’s a boss. This doesn’t matter too much on Recruit, especially if you’re already well familiar with Vermintide 2, or if you’re not playing solo. However, for newer players, a boss fight can increase the length of a mission considerably. So, take into account whether or not you mind fighting a boss before anything else.
  • Grimoire and Tome locations. As mentioned before, Grimoire and Tomes are both critical parts of an efficient XP system. Make sure you know the book locations of the mission you’re thinking of running – and consider whether or not they’re too out of the way, difficult, or plain awkward to obtain.
  • Are you playing solo? Playing solo has its benefits – you can have the bots carry Tomes and Grimoires, for example (just make sure they don’t drop them). However, playing with other players is obviously more efficient. Your team can split up to get the different books simultaneously, and you’ll be able to take on longer/tougher missions since you deal a lot more damage.

Take those factors into consideration, then settle on a mission to run. Ideally, it won’t take you more than seven or eight missions to complete a full playthrough of it solo. You’ll be dodging as many of the ADs as possible, so don’t worry about fighting. Just skip as much of the mission as you possibly can.

Best Mission for XP in Warhammer Vermintide 2

The reality of leveling up fast in Warhammer Vermintide 2 is that there’s no “defacto” best mission to run to level up. Ultimately, it comes down to whatever you can complete the fastest. However, there is one mission that is arguably the fastest to solo in the game – The Screaming Bell.

The Screaming Bell is mission two from act two. It’s one of the earlier missions in the game that can almost be entirely skipped. It does have a boss battle at the end, but on Recruit difficulty this doesn’t pose too much of a problem, especially if you grab bombs during your run. Although, you can skip that too if you want to.

Playing solo, on Recruit, you’ll be able to get a run of The Screaming Bell done in between six and eight minutes. That includes all Grimoires and Tomes, and the mission should award around 1300 XP depending on your luck with Loot Dice.

That’s 1300 XP in under 10 minutes. Not too bad as far as farming XP in Warhammer Vermintide 2 is concerned. Again, if you have a mission you prefer or one you can run faster – do that, instead. The Screaming Bell is a great place to start if you’re just looking to drop in and grind, though.
