Sometimes we just want to have fun playing the game but our teammates may disagree. Pretty sure almost everyone has encountered toxic, inappropriate, and just disturbing players in the game’s voice chat. This is why muting the voice chat is an option valued by many gamers but in Halo Infinite it’s not that obvious. Here’s how to mute voice chat and individual players in Halo Infinite.
Disable Voice Chat
The easiest thing to do is to disable everything and everyone in one go. You can mute all of the voice chat and it will remain that way until you switch it back on. To do that head to the “Settings” and “Audio”. Scroll down to the “Communication” section and uncheck the “Fireteam & Lobby Chat” and “Match Chat” settings. Now you will not hear anyone in your Halo games! Just remember to turn it back on when playing ranked.
There are a lot of other settings in the “Communication” section. It might get confusing when trying to mute the in-game voice chat or do something else. I managed to do it successfully only on the third try. To make your life easier let’s take a look at all the settings and what they do:
- Voice Chat Input Device. That’s just the device you will use as your microphone.
- Voice Chat Mode. How will you use the voice chat (Always, Push-to-Talk or Disabled). Disabling this doesn’t mute others, just yourself.
- Fireteam & Lobby Chat. Voice chat of your pre-made lobby.
- Match Chat. Voice chat of the whole match. The voice chat is shared between teams in casual matches.
- Incoming Voice Chat Volume. How loud your teammate will yell in your ear.
- Spartan Chatter. Voice over lines and callouts of the characters. Like “Enemy Spartans are closing in” or “Did some damage”.
How to Mute a Specific Player
You can also mute individual players in your game. In case only one of them is disturbing. The option is available to use anytime during the game but has quite a few menus to go through. So consider using it in between respawns.
To find this option press “Esc” and then “Tab”. It opens up the social menu where you can see all the players in the current game as well as your friends list and players you played with recently. To mute the player click on their name and find the button “Mute”. To unmute the player follow the same steps. If the player is muted there will be an “Unmute” button instead.
All done! The player is now silent and you can enjoy the game. You can send invites and join other players via this menu as well in case you want to make friends instead of muting them.
Why and When to Mute?
I know some players are very annoying, aggressive, or are flaming for no reason. With both casual and ranked playlists available in Halo Infinite you will encounter different situations and now that you know how to mute players I want to give advice on when is the best do to so.
Casual match. Mute as many as you want until you feel comfortable. It is casual after all, nothing is really important here as long as you are enjoying the game and having fun.
Ranked Arena and a flaming teammate. I find this a tricky one sometimes. If someone is being loud and maybe rages a lot but keeps it neutral I find it worth keeping them unmuted. They may still play in a team and communicate which is crucial in a ranked match. Muting everyone on cooldown is not a good habit and I learned it the hard way when playing Valorant.
Ranked Arena and abusive teammate. If your teammate leveled up from just raging to actually abusing you or other members of your team mute and report them straight away. Even though it is a ranked match you are not obliged to endure that behavior. It will affect the outcome of the game but with that kind of teammate, it was predetermined anyway. Moreover, if you mute the abuser but keep on playing with everyone else you can focus and still perform well regardless.
