At MSI 2021 we had the extraordinary opportunity and the pleasure to interview ShowMaker, mid laner for DWG KIA. We talked with the current world champion about his opponents at MSI and about the game they lost against C9.
Written below is the transcript of ShowMaker’s interview. Bold font goes for the media’s questions and standard font signals DWK’s ShowMaker’s answers. A word of thanks also goes to Max Nam who translated for us during the interview.
Hello everybody, this is Cecilia from Gamezo covering MSI 2021! And I have the pleasure to have with me ShowMaker the MID laner for Damwon Kia! Hello and nice to meet you!
Hello and nice to meet you.
I want to ask a few questions regarding MSI and then a couple of general questions about you and yourself in general.
ShowMaker, it seems you were a little bit off in the games today, first the loss to C9 and then you had a tough time against DFM, was there anything behind the scenes that affected the team’s performance today?
I think today everyone from our team, including myself, didn’t perform at our best, and since we weren’t performing at our best we had some disagreements in the game. I think this is the reason why we didn’t perform well today, and this is something that we will have to fix before the next matches.
What was the intent behind the Yasuo pick of today? Did you choose to pick him after seeing Perkz playing Yone?
It didn’t have anything to do in securing first place, it was more because I played with a lot of Dianas in solo Q as Yasuo and it seemed pretty strong, so I appealed to our team that I think this is a really strong comp and the coach agreed to it and he wanted to try it out today, and that’s why we picked Yasuo.
Are you referring to solo Q here in Europe or in Korea?
Yes, here in Europe.
Did you find anything different from playing solo Q here and there were particular picks that you had to face off in solo Q here in Europe?
I do believe playing in EU is pretty hard and I do see a lot of amusing things, sometimes incredible things, but I feel if I start talking about it it would come off in a negative tone, that’s why I’ll try to keep my silence on it.
Regarding MSI there have been few players who say RNG is going to win MSI this year, why do you think they said so?
First off I think they deserve to be called the favourite to win the champion, I don’t see too many weaknesses in them and I see that they have a lot of their fundamentals in place, and I think that is why everyone, or at least lot of players, say that RNG is a very competent team in this tournament.
Do you have anything to say to those who prefere someone else’s team over yours?
Well I’m sorry but we’ll be taking the trophy.
Do you think RNG will bring Xiaohu back over to midlane during the matches against you? Or will they leave Cryin facing you in the mid lane?
I think Cryin will be the one coming to mid, but I hope that Xiaohu comes.
Do you have any preferred champions that you know you’ll be better at playing against them?
No, I don’t think so.
Since Riot Games released the DAMWON KIA championship skins we haven’t seen them MSI, is there a chance we will see anyone playing with them?
I think Ghost already played his own skin, and I believe we might be playing all these skins because these champions are very playable champions in the meta right now.
One last question ShowMaker, you are a player that a lot of people look up to nowadays, and you are here because of your hard work and talent, is there anything you would like to say to your younger self if you had the opportunity?
I think this is a pretty hard question, but I will say “You can do it, so don’t be lazy and keep working hard so you can make it!”
Well thank you for your time and I wish you the best of luck in going to the next stage! Have a nice evening!
Thank you!
