Journey’s End Finally Completes Terraria

Published:

Journey’s End has been released! Support for Terraria may be ending, but the sandbox explorer might just live on.

In some peculiar turn of events, Terraria is at nearly half a million current players.

It’s been nine wonderful years… Finally, Terraria’s been updated for the last time. Who knew it was that old, right? I certainly didn’t, but I guess that doesn’t matter, as the game is as popular as ever. It’s also pushing back into the top five of the most-played games on Steam. It’s currently Steam’s top-selling title, which is also mental.

Why is all this happening? The lockdown, in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, is undoubtedly one reason, but Terraria’s Journey’s End Update is also a major factor.

Terraria’s Journey’s End Really Is The End Of The Journey

It may be 505 Games’ final major update to the title, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it. Released yesterday, Journey’s End adds over 800 items to Terraria’s already-expansive list. Not only this, but it pretty much enhances every aspect of the title.

Journey’s End is adding new biomes and new enemies and challenges; there’s also a brand-new Bestiary! This will allow players to record information and statistics about all the enemies they might face. The available information will also increase with the more enemies you kill, so it’s the perfect time to go hunting for some monsters.

Quality of life improvements, improved weather effects, and a full reworking of Terraria’s world generation are all included, too. Even if Terraria is a nine-year-old title at the end of it’s supported life, it might just be the perfect time to get stuck into what it has to offer!

Journey Mode and NPC Happiness Push You To Start Exploring

Terraria’s Journey’s End adds two new game modes to the title: Master Mode and Journey Mode. Master Mode just seems to layer on even more difficulty, like any harder mode would. What’s interesting is Journey Mode.

Journey Mode brings aspects from Terraria’s Creative Mode to the forefront with a few new twists. You’ll be able to build from further away, and you start with a few bits of helpful equipment. What’s really interesting, though, is the Research Table this mode adds. With this, you’ll be able to eventually learn the ability to duplicate items infinitely. It’s creative mode with a twist!

NPC Happiness, alongside this, makes for a very interesting new way to play. There’s already a town-building system established in Terraria, but this feature gives players more reason to actually explore further. Every NPC will now have a preferred biome alongside a series of preferred neighbours. When a town’s happiness is high enough, you’ll also be able to build a fast-travel pylon. This will bring reassurance to any avid adventurer and make touching base that little bit easier.

Journey’s End Makes The Final Destination Worth Going To

On top of this, Journey’s End adopts tModLoader as an official add-on. This popular mod manager has been around for a while and brings a whole host of new user-created content to Terraria. There’s also updated art, the introduction of golf, and new music to accompany all this.

Check out the official word on all everything that’s being added here.

Terraria’s Journey’s End was released as a free add-on for the game May 16. For more of the latest gaming news, reviews, and features, check out Gamezo.co.uk and @GamezoGG on Twitter.
