Though Knockout City has been out for less than a week, the game already has 2 million players.
This comes from Knockout City’s Twitter, which announced the milestone it reached during the “Block Party” free trial. This included all players from every platform, as Knockout City is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, with cross-play and cross-progression.
The game, developed by Velan Studios and published by EA, is quite popular and has received positive feedback, with players comparing it to Splatoon.
Players work together in teams and the goal is to attack enemies by knocking them out with a ball. The game features several types of balls in the game, which have varying effects. For example, the Moon Ball allows the player holding it to jump higher, and the Bomb Ball, which explodes on impact. Players can also throw another player as a ball.
While Knockout City reaching 2 million players could likely be due to the free trial period, the reaction it has gotten from gamers is promising, and it could see a good amount of sales once the free trial is over.
There could be potential for eSports for Knockout City, as an eSports competition took place during the open beta and the studio donated $500 to the prize pool. However, the developers essentially do not have control over that matter, but the popularity of the game make it seem possible.
