League of Legends Jarvan IV – Runes & Summoner Spells

This is the standard rune set of Jarvan IV. Conqueror works best on him as it gives him Attack Damage & allows him to go for extended trades or fights.

Triumph is the only useful rune in the second row so go for that.

Legend: Tenacity is always strong on any champion & Coup De Grace can be useful if you want to deal more damage. The other option can be Last Stand.

For the second tree, Sudden Impact is a good option if you think the Armor penetration is useful. Otherwise, you can run Zombie Ward paired with Relentless Hunter. Having more MS out of combat allows you to roam around the map more & quicker.

Jarvan IV is mostly played as a jungler. For this reason, you will run Flash + Smite. While he’s also played occasionally as a top laner or support, he’s not as viable as a jungler.

With the recent changes to the items, Jarvan IV’s build has become a lot more varied. He can go heavy damage, heavy tank or bruiser with a little of both.

The recommended Mythic Items are Sunfire Aegis, Goredrinker or Locket of the Iron Solari. In most cases, you’d want to go for Sunfire Aegis. It’s the most balanced choice as it gives the Immolate passive so you will deal damage regardless.

Locket of the Iron Solari is a good choice if you are going to be more of a supportive role in the game while Goredrinker is situational since the Active range is not massive.

After that, you want to build according to your Mythic Item. If you go tanky, continue building resistances (Armor & Magic Resist) & top it off with a Titanic Hydra. It gives good damage output despite being essentially a tank.

If you go damage, you can build the Goredrinker & other AD items like Death’s dance or Maw of Malmortius. While you’re not as tanky, you can kill a carry if you land your whole E-Q combo + Ultimate. Sterak’s Gage is very strong once you’ve built 3-4 items so you can also go for that in case you need the passive or some AD.

Like many guides we previously covered, Mercury’s Treads are your go-to boots. If they have a lot of armor, however, buy Plated Steelcaps.

Jarvan IV’s maxing order is straightforward: max Q first, then E, then W ( and R whenever you can). Remember, however, to start with E instead of Q: the attack speed is stronger as it boosts also your teammates’ attack speed which will result in a faster leash.

During Early Game

As a jungler, you will clear your camps & focus on ganking once you get lv 3. The E-Q combo is extremely good for closing up the gap & knocking up the enemies.

Jarvan gets even better gank set-up when he has his Ultimate up: trapping the enemies inside the Cataclysm enables your teammates to follow up the engage with AoE spells & killing them.

Mid-Late Game

Jarvan IV’s power falls off in the later stages of the game. Once past the 30-minute mark, you will start feeling less impactful. At that point, you need to find a good team fight & get the objectives (Dragons & Baron) to finish out the game.

Be aware, however, to not be too greedy: while you have good gap-close, your teammates might not be able to follow up the engage, resulting in a disastrous fight.

Takeaways

The Exemplar of Demacia is a good beginner champion who is trying to learn more about the jungle role. His easy-to-master kit makes you focus on other aspects of the role which are essential when you want to become a strong jungle main.
