With League of Legends update, Riot spoke out about the first full month after its massive overhaul for items and its item-shop, and they seemed very pleased overall, though they noted some important changes they are striving for in 2021.

Items
This League of Legends update was able to shake up the new items brought to the rift, and at first it was confusing, messy, and left players feeling uncertain how the state of the game would be, though RIOT heard the players concerns, and changed a lot of the items.
The items no longer make the champion, which in the past, is what the balancing team struggled with champions like Akali and Katarina, though these new items allow players to completely adapt to the games pace, and change accordingly to what their team needs.
These new items also helped a lot of new champs resurface and take their spot on stage. The wide range of data for champs that use to never get played started to spread and gain more popularity, champions like Sejuani, and Jinx gained power back from some of their meta partners.
The item shop also hit the mark League was trying to hit. The idea of it being completely personalized for each player at any given point of the game, was astonishingly smart. It made it so that the players didn’t have to memorize every item in the shop, as well as what each item did.
The developers made a ‘Wise Choice’ when it came to altering the UI of the store. At first it came as a complete shock, and left some players missing the old layout and feel for the items, but the way it improves the gameplay and overall look of the game, makes it feel like it will be around for the next 10 years.

Champions
With the first champ having an explosive take on the Rift League of Legend developers want to try and out do what they did last year. The champs were heavily driven by lore, and their team matched the playstyle to the characters amazingly.
From the down and dirty play style of playing Sett and bulldozing your way through the enemy team to try and take on the carries and proving yourself as the best, to playing a sweet and charming role of managing your teams carries like Seraphine, they only dropped the ball once, with the release of Samira, though they quickly took the time to adjust her.
2021 holds great opportunities for RIOT to expand on its universe and create a wild verity of new champs, Viego is a great starting place, we learned more about the fall of Shadow Isles and how its came to be this destroyed area due to the mist.
Keeping lore tied to other champions is also a strong suit, with showing Viego’s connection with Senna and Lucian, and his hunt to reclaim his queen’s soul.
This year, we’re looking to improve the “good for League overall” side of new champs and VGUs. This includes things like strong and clear counter-play, very unique kits that justify each new addition to our roster, lower complexity on average, and more unique thematics to expand our IP even if less popular. It’s worth noting that 2020 was definitely better than 2019 on this axis, but we want to go further in 2021.
RIOTSCRUFFY
Noting that each year they strive to do better than the last, shows just how determined to keep the game feeling new and fresh, the idea that they are also taking into consideration of every playstyle rather than just the ones that are supper desired is important to note, when waiting to see how each new champ is going to slot into the game.
Notable Changes
On release of the new changes, the damage was far from lacking. Everyone did massive amounts of damage, and at first it was fun; getting use to the items and trying out new things was very interesting, though one thing that all players can agree on that was not fun, was getting one-shot by a full tank Amumu.
RIOT heard our please and significantly toned down the item scaling for a lot of their new items. This allowed for a lot of other items to finally shine through in the dark.
This new League of Legends update also fixed an issue with ranked play where players were gain less LP than they should of, making it feel so much better than getting a +14 for a devastatingly hard win.
