This year, League of Legends celebrated their 10th anniversary for their famous World Championship tournament and Worlds 2020 brought in a record-high of 1 billion watch hours from fans across the world.
Despite the challenges thrown to Riot Games in puling off an international event that would prioritize the staff, players, and audience’s safety during the current pandemic, Worlds 2020 still brought in the highest-ever numbers for a League event. A great feat for Riot Games and the esports community!
In a brief but impressive show of numbers, Riot Games released an article sharing the numbers Worlds 2020 has brought in and we can all expect that this improvement will just continue as more Worlds championship comes to pass.

Riot allowed 6,312 fans to watch the Finals showdown live in SAIC Motor Pudong Arena, though going through with the previous stages of the tournament with no live audience at all. However it was not an easy task, as they had to pick from a staggering number of 3,205,750 fans who registered to watch the match-up of LPL’s Suning and LCK’s Damwon Gaming. The 38 Play-in matches prior to the last few games still brought in 160.92 million watch hours.
The Finals went live in 16 languages gaining 23.04 million average minute audience. With 45.95 million as the peak concurrent users. League of Legends only seems to beat their own record every year. Imagine what the 10th anniversary of Worlds could have been if circumstances allowed. The scale of the tournament would have probably exponentially grown.
