The Borderlands movie produced by Lionsgate is set to start filming in Budapest. With all star names behind it can hopefully deliver a quaility product. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.
It seems like filming for the live action adapation of the hit first person looter shooter Borderlands is due to kickstart soon in Hungary.
Adam Goodman, MidAtlantic Film’s head of production, recently spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the current film development process going on within the country and briefly mentioned the Borderlands movie among the current projects.
“We’re opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands [starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart], we’re doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can’t talk about,” Goodman said.”
This film is set to be directed by Eli Roth, who is most known for his work on horror films like Hostel and The Green Inferno. The script is being penned by Craig Mazin. Craig wrote the Hangover Part II and created, directed and was executive producer for HBO’s chernobyl. He is also set to co write another video game adaptation in the form of the Last Of Us tv series. Erik Feig along with Avi Arad and Ari Arad will be in charge of producing the project.
On the casting front Cate Blanchett has been given the role of the Siren Lillith while comedian Kevin Hart is rumored to be playing the soldier Roland.

Video game adaptations have a history of less than warm receptions from fans and critics alike with only a few entries ever serving as faithful adaptations and good stories. However over the last few years the series like The Witcher and Castlevania on Netflix have been received far warmer by both parties. Only time will tell which camp this series will fall into, hopefully for its fans its one they will enjoy.
