Hello Games and EA have announced a collaboration between No Man’s Sky and Mass Effect that allows No Man’s Sky players who complete the most recent Expeditions season to unlock the Normandy to be a frigate in their fleet.

A brief trailer was made to announce the collaboration and it is filmed in the classic No Man’s Sky trailer fashion that all of their trailers are filmed in. The collaboration is a part of celebrating the launch of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition that released last week.

Now, to be clear, the Normandy is not a controllable ship. You can’t walk around inside it or explore the galaxy doing activities in it. Instead, the Mass Effect ship will be a frigate in the players’ fleet. The fleet is a collection of ships that go out into the galaxy and gather resources for you while you go out on your own, doing other cool things.

Expeditions are a series of missions that take players from planet to planet, in order to complete tasks. The reward for the final mission is having the Normandy be part of your fleet.

Hello Games’ Sean Murray expressed his excitement about the collaboration in an open letter addressed to the community. He wrote “We are thrilled and flattered that Bioware and EA let us pay tribute in this way. As huge fans of the series, it’s a lovely moment for sci-fi fans. It comes at such an exciting time for Mass Effect, with so many people discovering and rediscovering this amazing universe through the release of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition.”

For those who may have missed it, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is an upgraded collection of the original Mass Effect trilogy that includes almost all of the DLC and gameplay enhancements. The collection of 9-14-year-old games is one of the best-reviewed games of the year so far.

No Man’s Sky has also received a comeback of sorts in recent years, as numerous free content updates transformed the original game and attracted both new and old fans.

Players don’t have long to unlock the Normandy; the “Beachhead” Expedition ends on May 31st. So, you have about 10 days to take part in the cross-universe collaboration between No Man’s Sky and Mass Effect.
