Killing a Baby Bee will not drop any rewards.

Behaviour of Minecraft Bees

Bees movement is hovering, they do not fly although they have wings.

They take damage when touching water as well as increased damage from the Bane of Arthropods as they are classified as arthropods in Minecraft. Even when angered, a Bee can still be attached to a lead as well as still attack while attached.

Bees can travel as far as 22 blocks from their hive to find a Flower to pollinate or attack.

When it comes to direction of travel Bees, they can move left or right as well as ascent through scaffolding upward but they do not move downward. With a Flower, a Bee can be lead through a doorway but cannot move through open trap doors or regular doors otherwise.

Baby bees can move though open gaps above fences in a 1×2 doorway.

Bee Pollination Information

Bees leave their hives one by one during the day and are attracted by Flowers. Flowers that bees can pollinate with can only spawn within 2 block range, horizontally or vertically from beehive that bee spawned from.

30 seconds after a Bee circles a Flower or Berry, they will collect pollen after making a happy sound during the time.

You can tell a Bee has pollinated as its color texture will change to reflect pollen on their back as well as drop pollen particles.

Bees can pollinate various plants and foods such as:

  • Wheat
  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Melon Stems
  • Pumpkin Stems
  • Berry Stems
  • Beetroots

The plant will change appearance when it is pollinated, as it is entering a new stage of growth. This is similar to using Bone Meal.

Pollen that a Bee is carrying must touch a plant directly in order to pollinate it.

In a single pollination time cycle, which is very short, bees can pollinate up to 10 different plants.

After pollinating, a bee will return to it’s hive and make honey, as well as increase a hive’s honey amount by 1. This process takes about two minutes.

When a hive reaches 5 Honey, it will start to ooze. At this point a player may now collect Honey Combs or Honey Bottles.

Minecraft Bees Hive Details

A bee will enter any hive that has the capacity for it, which is a maximum of 3. If they do not have a hive, they will search until one is found.

Bees can enter a Beehive from any angle, but they only leave through the front. You can use this to your advantage if you’re building a Bee Farm. It’s also worth noting that they will always return to their hive during the night and if it is raining. Interestingly, Bees also keep all data such as name and health.

Destroying a hive will release all Bees inside but using an item enchanted with Silk Touch the Bees will be contained until a new hive is placed which they will then exit.

Bee Attack Information

Further into this Minecraft: Bees Guide we’ll go over attack information for bees.

Unless you use a campfire to harvest Honey, the Bees of a hive will become angered. They will also become angered if one of them is attacked or a beehive is destroyed.

Any damage done to a hive that does not destroy it, will not anger the bees inside. Although when destroyed, all bees inside will be angered.

However, using a tool enchanted with the Silk Touch tool will keep bees within the hive contained it said hive is destroyed even if

In the Bedrock Edition specifically, Bees outside of a hive, even with Silk Touch, will still be angered. Bees, when angered, will have red eyes and attack the player together, in a swarm.

Like stated earlier, using a campfire is the only way to extract honey from a beehive without angering the bees at all.

Collecting Honeycombs or Honey Bottles from a Hive with will cause bees to leave the hive and become angered, attacking the player. Bees only attack once, but will not attack in peaceful difficulty.

If a player uses a Shield against a Bees attack, it will continue to attack, until death or until it hits the player successfully.

When, or if, the Bee does succeed in attacking it will inflict poison upon the player. Doing this, the Bee will lose its stinger and die within a minutes time.

Regeneration, Resistance and Absorption potions with a potency of 255 can prevent the poisoning of the stinger.

Bees will attack anything that angers them such as other mobs or creatures.

Minecraft Bee Breeding Information

Flowers are crucial in breeding Bees in Minecraft. If a player is holding a Flower, a Bee can be attracted to it, following the player even when the player stops moving.

If a Flower is given to a Bee it will enter love mode, starting the mating process creating bees and granting the player experience.

Bees born this way, will become adults in 20 minutes after birth.

Cooldown for the same bees to mate again is 5 minutes. Once again, flowers can help you in breeding and increase this process by 10%.
