Capcom has just revealed several details regarding Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, including a release date for the latter in their March 8 Monster Hunter Digital Event. Here are all the new details from both games. You can find more information on Capcom’s website.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will release on July 9, 2021, for both Nintendo Switch and Steam, meaning that it is not a Switch timed exclusive, unlike Rise.

Some plot details were also revealed, including the egg the protagonist being entrusted with containing Razewing Ratha, a monster spoken about in legend. Furthermore, the protagonist from the Monster Hunter Stories will also make an appearance.

A co-op mode is also featured.

As for the product info, there will be a Digital Deluxe Edition, which included an outfit for Ena, Razewing Armour Alpha/Beta for the player, and others. A pre-order bonus will include a Kamura Maiden Outfit for Ena.

Three amiibos will be available alongside the game’s release: Ena, Razewing Ratha, and Tsukino. Each amiibo will provide you with layered armour specific to that amiibo, as well as “a small daily bonus.”

Lastly, if you have save data of Monster Hunter Rise, you can receive the Kamura Garb, which is special layered armour that resembles the hunters’ gear in Rise.

More details regarding Monster Hunter Stories 2 will be revealed in the future.

Monster Hunter Rise

Much of the Monster Hunter Digital Event was dedicated to Rise. A new trailer has revealed Nargacuga and Zinogre returning for Rise. While we have seen armour sets that have been speculated to be theirs previously, we now have official confirmation that they will be in Rise.

A new unnamed monster was also teased, though no new information has been given.

A completely new feature has been added, which expands the hunter’s move set. Players will unlock the ability to swap out certain regular attacks and Silkbind Attacks at will.

For instance, instead of a Charged Shelling Attack for the Gunlance, you will be able to use the Blast Dash Attack, which uses the Gunlance like a rocket to propel yourself forward for a follow-up attack.

A total of 5 locales will be in the game: Shrine Ruins, Flooded Forest, Frost Islands, Sandy Plains, and Lava Caverns.

One of the exciting showcases from the Monster Hunter Digital Event was the Rampage, a type of quest that consists of defending Kamura Village from waves of monsters. The quest takes place in the Stronghold, where Hunting Installations such as ballistae can be used.

In order to complete the quest, all hordes must be repelled or when the final Major Threat has been dealt with.

At the beginning of the Rampage, players will have prep time to place their Hunting Installations on the various hotspots throughout the Stronghold. Once the time runs out or when all players have readied up, the first horde will arrive, signalling the start of the Rampage.

While using these Hunting Installations will be helpful in repelling these monsters, hunters can also fight them traditionally using their weapons, which is recommended when the “Counter Signal” is activated.

When the Counter Signal is activated, your hunter’s attack will increase dramatically, so that’s your sign to get up close and personal

Allies from Kamura Village will also show up, providing backup.

Powerful monsters that lead the horde are known as “Major Threats” and “Apexes.” Previously shown was Apex Arzuros, hopefully, other Apex versions of monsters will presumably show up as well.

Quests in Monster Hunter Rise uses the traditional quest system prior to Monster Hunter World. They are split up between Village Quests (singleplayer) and Hub Quests (single player or multiplayer). Progress for the two quest types is tracked.

A system similar to the SOS Flare from World returns, allowing players to drop in on quest already underway. Like in World, the quest difficulty will adjust when new players join. Quest difficulty will scale depending on the number of players, rather than having quest difficulty for solo and multiplayer (and 2 players in Iceborne).

If a player leaves a quest, the difficulty will scale down appropriately during it, allowing for even more seamless hunts.

The lobby system (now called “Hunter Connect”) is similar to World, allowing you to search based on monster target, quest type, and other parameters.

A “Like” function has been added, which allows you to more easily reconnect with people you’ve hunted with. After completing a quest, you can send a “Like” to other players using the directional buttons before returning to the village.

If two hunters “Like” each other, they will become “Mutual Likes,” which will allow both players to find each others’ Lobbies directly.

A camera feature allows hunters to photograph while on a hunt in the village. Photos will be saved to the Nintendo Switch console and will also be viewable in the in-game album. Pictures will display the name of the creature you photographed. Selfies can also be taken.

As for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wing of Ruin functionality, players who have the game can unlock the default rider armour in Monster Hunter Rise as layered armour. Cosmetic DLC is also featured in Monster Hunter Rise.

A new demo has been announced, which will become available on March 11. This demo will be the same as the first demo, but will feature a new advanced difficulty quest that pits you against Magnamalo.

Lastly, Capcom has confirmed free title updates post-launch that will add monsters to the game. The first monster to be added will be Chameleos, expected to release at the end of April. This title update will also unlock your HR (Hunter Rank) cap and other related features.

Monster Hunter Rise releases on March 26, 2021 and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin releases on July 9, 2021.
