Modern Warfare 2 broke multiple records and received much praise for its innovative features, but what about the prestige system? We haven’t seen a proper prestige system in years now, but it seems as if the release of Season 1 and Warzone 2 is bringing us one. Let’s look at the new prestige system in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

Older Call of Duty titles had a specific level cap that you had to reach in order to prestige. That would last until you hit max prestige. However, that system was scrapped in favor of seasonal leveling and battle passes. Although refreshing, seasonal leveling never really rewarded the player as much as the old prestige system did.

New Prestige Levels in Warzone 2 & Modern Warfare 2

Prestige leveling in Season 1 won’t fully go back to traditional roots, but it is very similar to how it was before. The level cap during Season 1 will be increased from 55 to 250. But, every 50 levels will count as a prestige. Once you reach level 56, you’ll officially be in first prestige.

Here’s an example of the prestige system and how leveling will work in season 1:

  • Level 100 – Prestige 2
  • Level 150 – Prestige 3
  • Level 200 – Prestige 4
  • Level 250 – Prestige 5 (Season 1 Level Cap)

Your progress will also be saved from the previous season, so you don’t have to worry about your levels resetting by the end of a given season. If you don’t manage to hit the level cap, you will stay at that level even after the season has ended. This is great, as you won’t miss out on all of the prestige icons if you can’t play as much.

The level cap and prestige counter will increase as more seasons are released. Meaning that you’ll likely be able to reach a very high level and prestige by the end of year one. This system seems to reward both dedicated and part-time players, which wasn’t the case in previous games.

Revisions like this are the best way to tackle features from older titles. We’re not exactly going back to old COD roots with this system, but it’s about time for some change. Regardless of how it affects both games, be sure to stock up on some Double XP tokens, you’re going to need them.

Now with that being said, we hope you like the new prestige system in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. There is plenty of new information to look out for:
