Taming a dinosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved involves food, lots of food. And since taming and using dinos is a key part of gameplay you will need to farm up quite a bit of food. But there’s a magic food that is the most effective: kibble. Here’s how to make kibble in ARK featuring all the different kinds and their recipes.
Crafting a Kibble
Kibble can be crafted in a cooking pot or industrial cooker. There is a list of resources you might need to craft a kibble and they vary depending on the type of kibble. Crafting the right kibble is crucial as if you feed the wrong one to the dinosaur it will have almost no effect. So make sure you know which kibble to craft.
To craft a kibble you will need water, an egg of a certain size, fiber, and some plants that depend on the type of kibble. Light the fire on the pot and put all the materials in the cooking pot and wait for a minute or two until the kibble is crafted. Cooking time may also depend on the kibble you are making.
If you waited and there is still no kibble, make sure that you don’t have any other resources in the cooking pot. Having charcoal, for example, may result in crafting dye instead of kibble. Empty water containers can also be a reason for the cooking not happening.
All the Kibble Recipes
There are 6 kibbles total. Each with its own recipe. Here are all the recipes and required resources. Note that if you are cooking in an industrial cooker with a connected water supply you don’t need an additional waterskin for crafting.
| Kibble | Egg Type | First Resource | Second Resource | Third Resource | Fourth Resource | Fiber | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Kibble | Extra Small Egg | 5x Mejoberry | 10x Amarberry | 10x Tintoberry | 1x Cooked Meat | 5x FIber | Full Waterskin |
| Simple Kibble | Small Egg | 5x Mejoberry | 2x Rockarrot | 1x Cooked Fish Meat | 5x FIber | Full Waterskin | |
| Regular Kibble | Medium Egg | 2x Longrass | 2x Savoroot | 1x Cooked Meat Jerky | 5x FIber | Full Waterskin | |
| Superior Kibble | Large Egg | 2x Citronal | 2x Rare Mushroom | 1x Prime Meat Jerky | 1x Sap | 5x FIber | Full Waterskin |
| Exceptional Kibble | Extra Large Egg | 10x Mejoberry | 1x Rare Flower | 1x Focal Chili | 5x FIber | Full Waterskin | |
| Extraordinary Kibble | Special Egg | 10x Mejoberry | 1x Giant Bee Honey | 1x Lazarus Chowder | 5x FIber | Full Waterskin |
The core difference in the kibble recipes is eggs. And it can be a tough one to get. Briefly, you need to tame a female creature and it will eventually start laying eggs. The rate is greatly increased when they are paired with a male dino of the same species giving the “mate boosted” effect.
Even when boosted, the rate of laying eggs is pretty low, around one in 17 minutes. So if you really need a lot of them consider creating an egg farm.
Every species’ eggs are classified by size. For example, the Dodo egg is an extra small egg and there is no way around it. There is a full list of all the eggs and what size they are considered here.
Kibble Usage
You can use kibbles as regular food but mainly kibbles are used to tame a dinosaur quickly. You knock one out and feed him with food until it’s tamed. Feeding the right kibble will greatly progress the taming bar. Every dino has a favorite kibble. Here’s the list of all the creatures you can tame with a specific kibble:
