Old School Runescape Coming to Steam in February

Updated:
OSRS Steam Release

Time to hop into the nostalgia time machine back to 2007, because the Old School Runescape (OSRS) Steam release is coming next month!

Months after the successful addition of the newer Runescape to Steam in October 2020, Old School Runescape will be available on Steam on February 24th. This release will coincide with the game’s 20th anniversary celebration, which will include anniversary content released throughout 2021.

The OSRS Steam release will add clan support to the game, as well as Group Ironman. The year-long anniversary celebrations will allow players to participate in multi-events. Starting with a battle involving ‘demons and dragons of yore‘, by the side of the Green Gnome Child.

Old School Runescape was released in 2013 after Jagex opened a poll asking players if they would like a separate version of Runescape. The separate version in question was specifically, an exact copy of the game from 2007.

Despite being one of the oldest MMORPG’s out there today, the game still receives regular updates with new items, features, monsters and even new locations. Potential updates are entirely decided by the game’s community, requiring at least 75% votes in their favour in order to be implemented.

2020 was a record-breaking year for Old School Runescape, hitting an all-time high of 157,445 active players during the release of their new league. To put the player count into perspective, were OSRS on Steam during that time, it would have been on the top 10 most played games. This would have placed it just under the wildly popular Among Us.

For players that have an existing account on OSRS, you can simply link your existing account to Steam and continue on your way. Achievement hunters will also be excited to learn that the OSRS Steam release will include Steam trading cards and achievements available for players to unlock.

2021 sounds like a year of non stop excitement for both Runescape and OSRS players. See you soon in Lumbridge!
