Overwatch Cross-play is Now Live for All Consoles

Updated:

A few weeks ago, Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it would be implementing cross-play to Overwatch. Now, it’s finally live and PC and console players can now play with each other in non-Competitive matches.

In order to participate in cross-play, console players will need to link their console to a Battle.net account. Details on how to do so can be found on Blizzard’s FAQ page on their website.

By default, a party of console players will play with other console players. A party of PC players will play with PC players, as well as groups that consist of both PC and console players.

If you’re a console player and you solo-queue into Quick Play with cross-play enabled, you will be matched with other console players and not with PC players. If you are a console player and you form a party with console players and PC players, you will be placed into the PC matchmaking pool and play with PC players, as well as groups that consist of PC and console players.

As a console player, if you disable cross-play, you will be match-made only with players from your particular console.

Please note that PC players cannot disable cross-play.

Other details can be found on the FAQ page regarding progression, bans, and more. Keep in mind that while cross-play can be enabled or disabled on consoles for Overwatch, PC players cannot opt out of cross-play.

Blizzard has also stated that they are interested in adding in cross-progression in Overwatch, saying that “it’s something that the Overwatch team is excited to work on in the future.”

Overwatch is available on PC, and all consoles, and its sequel, Overwatch 2, currently has no release date, and it is expected to release in 2022 or even later.
